Try checking out bridal gown/tux stores. Many of them order the invites for you right there and they have books to look at. Online is hard because you can't see samples right there. Also, at the tux/gown shops they usually give a discount on invites since you're getting the tuxes there.
I got married in February as well. I don't know where you live but my colors were silver & lavendar. (I did this to incorporate the winter & spring merging together). My gown was actually platinum colored (silver) and the bridesmaides wore lavendar halter dresses with silver threaded designs. It was nice to not have the dark colors of a fall wedding. Everything looked "crisp". Congrats. Planning is fun and frustrating.

I picked up my copy of Modern Bride and started flipping pgs. Nearly all those invitation places have an 800 number and send a free catalog. Then when you've limited it down to a few that you like, they sent you free samples. Some are unlimited, some only do 3. You can feel and look at it, and they are way way cheaper than anything in those books you see at the bridal shows. Outrageous how high those are.
I ended up with my final 2
http://www.annswedding.com
http://www.invitationsbydawn.com
http://www.now-and-forever.com is another one--but i didn't use it.
I ordered from Invitations By Dawn and could not have been happier. They had lots of invitations in my price range (I only wanted to pay $1 per invite as we were ordering 250-300 invites). They came and were beautiful. Not a single one had a noticable flaw, smudge, anything on them. As we folded them, we noticed a couple had a slightly jagged edge to them (less than 15 out of the whole bunch). My mother is an extreme perfectionist, which is how she noticed.
As far as which colors represent happily ever after--whatever colors you like. I used turquoise and coral. Try to avoid teal--I think everyone thinks of Wedding Planner everytime a bride on here says she is using Teal. I've seen gorgeous weddings with red and black. Country weddings with yellow and green. This year it seems really popular to use the same color family (instead of contrasting colors) like light blue and navy blue or earthly like sand and sage. I've also seen pink and red done nicely. Creams and browns have been really in this year. Though they have a hard time when it comes to the tuxes in smaller cities. Whatever your favorite color is would make a perfect accent color.
Whatever color most appeals to you. I recommend picking bridesmaids--taking the most "different" one out bridesmaids dress shopping. Are 3 of them willowy blondes but one a volumptuous redhead? Is one far more well-endowed than the others? Take her and pick what looks good on her. Several ideas when you see it on a bridesmaid will make you change your mind. Thats what I tell brides who are debating b/t more of a merlot, crimson, or maroon--which are all very similar. See what color the "perfect" dress comes in first.
Buy one of those wedding planner books. Make a notebook with every picture you see that you like and divide it into sections for hair, bridesmaids, flowers, etc. Then you can keep all the pictures of all the different bouquets you like together. Follow the checklists in the back of Modern Bride. Very helpful and will help you remain calm. Then start talking to photographers and caterers. Colors can come later. But food--they need regardless.

I'm getting married in three weeks, and i must tell you that the invitation was SOOOOO important in getting the 'feel' of our wedding just right. our colors are sage green, chocolate brown and cream. It's a very naturey/whimsical themed weding that is pretty formal, yet not frou-frou and super expensive.
We had a friend who owns a Mac and a nice printer to make ours. we designed it to be on nice ivory paper, with brown text and some sage green flower prints as decoration. I wrapped every invitation with a shimmery brown ribbon, and to seal the envelope, we had a very lovely stamp.
anyway, get the colors picked out!!! brown and green have been my favorite colors for years, so of course it just made sense. but also, you should pick a color that wont be too difficult to find for bridesmaid dresses. the COOLEST thing is that brown dresses are pretty easy to find and are reasonably priced... so, i think brown, black, pink, or even gold would be good choices for the MAIN color.
for the invitations, usually this could be the design or you could just add a pretty bow/ribbon in that color.
I found some nice websites (i still have a lot bookmarked from when we were deciding on what to do):

good luck! the invitations ARE important because it sets the tone to the wedding and really shows off your personalities! I hate getting ugly and lame invitations! it makes me feel like the wedding wont be fun or special. the more specialized you make it, the more excited your guests will be!!!!

After looking at costs for wedding invitations, I have decided to print my own. There are great invitation kits available in office supply stores and craft stores. Then you can use anything you can dream up. The costs to have them done professionally is astronomical in comparison.
Once the wedding is over, most people will throw the invitation away anyways.

When I purchased my dress from David's Bridal they gave me a cupon for a 40% discount on my wedding Invitations. It is such a good deal that they will be cheaper than if I bought cardstock and printed them myself. As you book with other vendors or purchase other things, check to see if they offer deals on other services.

i dont suggest going on line for ordering your invitations.
go to a local hallmark, or party supply store they usually have a wedding section that you can order your invitations from. they have tons of books to look through to give you ideas. just pick colors that you like.
