"An immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law. "

Only believers can be sinners whilst they and the rest of us can be considered criminals if we do something against the law... or just not very nice if we do some unkind act.

Sin requires belief in a divinity or religious code, so only believers can sin.

The Bible and what it says about sin is irrelevant to a non-believer. Only believers can be sinners.

Some of you just don't get it at all do you. so immersed in your own religion that you cannot even conceive that sin is merely your religious jargon, it doesn't apply to us outside your religion any more than Quetzalcoatl's religious laws can be applied to you.

Absolutely correct.

By definition, sin is a violation of a spiritual or divine law. Such laws are completely subjective, and differ according to faith system. It is logically meaningless to call someone a sinner who is not of or has not agreed to be bound by that faith system.

This is one of the reasons faith systems are so astonishingly intolerant of one another, even when - like Judaism, Christianity and Islam - they have precisely the same Abrahamic root.

Societies moral codes are not based on divine law, though some would like you to believe they are. If they were we would stone women, murder apostates, encourage bigamy and countenance genocide - all sanctioned in both old and new testament.

Sinner ad Criminal.. Just 2 similar word...
Sin, a kind of manner which is bad. In terms of religion point of view. On the other hand, crime made by law. And the law itself takes the base from religion.

Assassination is sin, yes cause the religion taught us like that.
Assassination is a crime, yes, cause the law stated like that.

That`s why, if u said that atheis (non-religy) people have no sin... U r wrong... He is the sinner, and he is also the crime.

It`s not just because Atheis or people not belief in God, they have no heart. Sin can be felt by our heart... Everything that we though it`s bad, that`s sin. And if we still do that, u r sinner.

Ahh, another case of someone leaving out the rest of the definition. This usually happens when people take scripture out of context. Here is the rest of the definition of sin:
noun:
2. any act regarded as such a transgression, esp. a willful or deliberate violation of some religious or moral principle.
3. any reprehensible or regrettable action, behavior, lapse, etc.; great fault or offense: It's a sin to waste time.
verb:
4. to commit a sinful act.
5. to offend against a principle, standard, etc.
--
So, in essense, any time you speed, per the defintion, you are sinning. "All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God...." a little scripture for you. Best part about sin as it applies to your definition is that Jesus endured six hours of torture, pain, and death to take care of those since. You know, He even had all those in mind who He knew wouldnt believe. Pure love, man.

No. That is not true. It is as Paul explains in Romans below.

First, as the scriptures demonstrate, the reason humans die is because of being sinners, each and every one. Though Paul explains that where there is no law sin is not charged, he also explains in Rom 2:12-16, that each one's conscience is the godly standard that God through Christ judges everyone outside the Law on judgment day.

So, sin does not require belief to be attributed to a person!

Romans 3:9 For we have charged both Jews, and Greeks, that they are all under sin.

Romans 5:12 Wherefore as by one man sin entered into this world, and by sin death; and so death passed upon all men, in whom all have sinned.

Everyone is a sinner at one time.

Romans 3:10[kjv]As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

But when we recieve JESUS we are no longer sinner but are made the righteousness of GOD through JESUS.

2 Corinthians 5:21[kjv]For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

JESUS loves you.Have u recieved JESUS for the forgiveness of your sins?

John 3:16[kjv] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

so when we believe in JESUS we have eternal life.JESUS lived a sinless life and gave up his life as a sacrifice so we can be sin free. Ask JESUS to come into your heart and forgive ur sins and cleanse ur past with the blood JESUS shed on the cross.

With a simple prayer like above u can be saved.JESUS loves u and wants u to be saved.

Well.... according to Christian doctrine, everyone is born a sinner. It is not an act, or a matter of conscience, but our nature. Sin nature became part of the human race when Adam sinned. The Bible has more to say about this, but the one verse that comes to my mind that helps to form this theology is, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (the old testament book of Isaiah)

Sorry, your definition isn't the truth. Sin is sin is sin. It doesn't require belief because those of us called believers don't actually "believe", we know God exists. Ultimately He is the only barometer, your belief is irrelevant as far as the concept of sin, it's relevant to your salvation however. Note: Are you sincerely asking a question or making a point? If you don't like the answers don't ask the question.

Santa,
We read GOD'sd WORD. It is the TRUTH and is HIS WORD. We read that "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of GOD". This we all know as being true. Only you would contest such a thing because you do not want to admit that you are wrong. IN the end, we will all answer for our sins. You and I will visit Jesus on that day. I hope that by that time, you have repented and found your way to HIM. Have a nice day.
Thanks,
EDs, Christian

Was that a question, or statement of belief? Sinner or criminal, you have broken the law. If you break the law, ignorant that there is an enforcer, that will not excuse you. You've still broken the law. There is a penalty. The enforcer will require it of you.

Sin only requires the divine law. Whether one believes it or not is irrelevant.

Whether I believe murder is wrong it doesn't matter. If I kill someone I am punished under the law.
