it's your wedding hun so play whatever songs you want to play....don't plan the whole song list around a small group of people, it's your day.....it's awesome that you're taking them into consideration though....congrats and good luck

If that's what you want, then that's what you should go with. But you should choose the songs that you like, not the songs that you feel your (older) guests might like. As a side note, think about what you want people to be doing when the music is playing. Do you want everyone to be dancing? Fast dancing or slow dancing? Do you want people to just sit around talking, enjoying each other's company? Use these questions to figure out what songs you want played, and how loud you want the music to be, etc. I've been at a couple weddings where the bride and groom complain that no one is dancing, but they didn't really pick any good songs for people to dance to. If the music is too fast or too slow, or somewhere weird in the middle, it makes it kind of awkward.

You can play whatever you want to play! It's your wedding. If you like 50s music, why shouldn't you have it playing at your wedding?
Otherwise, another idea would be to play the 50s/60s music during the cocktail hour or dinner. Those times usually have some themed music and it would be a fun to eat while listening to those songs.
Just remember it is your wedding day, so don't let other people tell you what to do. You make the rules, so just have fun! Good luck!

It's not a club, it's your wedding! So play the music you are comfortable with. If you are only concerned about the older crowd then mix in a few newer comtemporary songs in with the 50's and 60's sets. Do what makes you feel comfortable. It's your day!

Absolutely it is your wedding. However there is a lot of 50's and late 60's music that younger crowds like. You could switch it up with 50's and 60's motown music and tons of great 60's music. As long as it is up beat and fun to dance everyone will have a blast. Don't worry about it you can't make everyone happy!

It's ok, but I think it will alienate and bore at least half of your guests. You may find that thos in their 20's and 30's will leave right after they eat so they can go out to the clubs and dance to more modern music. And if you wait too long to serve the food to try t avoid that, people will get angry because they are hungry. Stick to a mix that includes classic and contemporary music that is also family friendly. Do the Butt, Ride the train, Macarena, and electric slide! Those will get people on the dance floor.

When people talk about your wedding, you want them to talk about how much fun they had, not that they were bored and you only played "Oldies".

Yes, of course you can play whatever you want at your own wedding. BUT, consider your younger guests. Are they going to be able to get their groove on to the oldies? Probably not. You may want to mix it up a little.

Hope your reception is a blast, good luck :)

Ahh my friend, a dear, dear friend of mine Steve Hallowell had the very same collection. He used to play it for us while we were up camping in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains in Utah. Brings back precious memories of a special friend who passed, left this world way too soon kidney cancer stole the life of a man who had the gift of laughter and the voice of an angel. He left behind a lovely wife and a small son and many friends, those songs bring great joy. Turn it up an extra notch so that he might hear and sing along! Thanks for the memory!

A lot of those old songs hold up as fun to dance to. Sure, why not? They're going to celebrate your wedding and be with family and friends, not going to the club.

And I say this as someone whose first dance was to "Praise You," by Fatboy Slim.
