As a research scientist I get into arguments about this stuff with colleagues and friends who do stem cell research all the time.

I'm all for non-embryonic stem cells research i.e. Adult Stem cells and Umbilical Stem cells. Both show much more promise than embryonic stem cells. People underestimate the human body's capacity to heal and regenerate. This is something worth researching. Imagine being able to tap into our own bodies to cure diseases.

I'm against Embryonic Stem cell research, because: 1) It's ethically wrong, and 2) EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH IS A DINOSAUR IT ISN'T GOING TO GO ANYWHERE.

Embryonic stem cell research has been around for quite some time. There are too many unanswered questions, many of which will remain unanswered because there are too many variables, both genetic and environmental, affecting the differentiation and development of these cells. If this research had any potential at all, the pharmaceutical companies would be jumping all over it. But they're not because it is a dead end.

Stem cells taken from any source other than the patients own body (adult stem cells) will have different DNA than the patient and will be rejected unless the immune system is suppressed (like for a kidney transplant). Also, stem cells were implanted into diseased children (Bubble Boys) and caused run-away cancer. Stem cells will not help those whose disease involves deficiencies in each and every cell of their body because of DNA problems. That said stem cell research should continue (using animals) to learn more about the operation of healthy cells as well as diseased cells. Limited research funds should not be squandered on applications with very limited chance of success but should remain on the back burner until more is known.

That depends entirely on the source of the Stem Cells in question.

Spinal Cord: Absolutely - Green Light - No Problem

Embryonic - NO - too many ethical issues to list, here. To sum up: Is one life worth more than another?

Stem cellular learn seems to grant the terrific enhance in drugs on account that antibiotics. The learn could locate no longer in elementary terms treatments or remedies for affliction yet could actually advance new organs to swap a failed organ. New insulin producing cells are already being positioned into human livers and have presented a treatment for diabetes. This learn ought to pass on and could pass on exterior of the U. S.. the project that scares me maximum suitable to the reasearch is that there could grow to be a industry for human stem cells harvested by criminals or contractors, and so on. this could must be dealt with by according to possibility the police international however the possibility is in simple terms too stable to quit shifting forward. there is added reasearch happening into turning out to be stem cells type tissue to be utilized in drugs.

If what I am reading about stem cell research is true, it sounds like a modern miracle of science. I think it should be pursued, especially if it would mean the paralysed could walk, the blind could see, people with degenerative diseases would be free of pain or palsy, dementia could be cured. I can't see anything wrong with any of that.
