I've got abt $150 US savings in an envelope tucked away in my drawer, at the bottom of a huge pile of stuff like books and pens. i've been keeping it there since about 1 year and a half ago, and recently it's stolen. My parents are fuming, pushing all the blame on me, though I suspect a certain someone who gains entrance to our home cuz she does chores when the family's away. So, am I really the one to blame? Please reply and thanks.

I don't think so, I think the person who should be at blame is the person who stole the money.

Yes you are to blame. Always remember that if you hide it someone will eventually find it.
Your parents upset has been properly placed. YOU put the $150 in an easily accessible place and it was taken. YOU ASSumed it would be safe beneath a pile of books and pens.
You were irresponsible with your money. However, so were your parents for not urging you to open a bank account or to put it in your bank account.

If it was taken by the help, then you are at fault. Never assume that everyone is trustworthy.

It doesn't matter who is to be blames because the money is long gone. You shoudl not have left money laying around like that even thuogh you thought yuo hid it well. People tend to open up drawers and look around. Your parents are probably annoyed with you because you did not keep the money in a bank. You are partly to be blamed for this. NO one should leave valuable items laying around when you have strangers walking in to do chores. It is your responsibility. A thief is a thief but they cant steal anything from you if you take precautions.

No, not your fault. But first, what proof do you have she took it (because you didn't)? Keep this one point in mind: You can get a U.S. Savings bond replaced much easier than hiring good help! You can also find out if the bond was cashed yet, where it was cashed, & then get a copy of the signature(s) on it so you can file a police report (after you have proof). When did you notice it missing? When did you tell your parents? Why did you keep it there instead of locked up in a safety deposit box, or in a home safe/lock box? Maybe that's why your parents blame you. Good luck!

No, you are not the one to blame, considering you didn't spend it. No one, even the cleaning lady has the right to go through your things and take them. The only way this matter can get solved is if you can get some kind of proof, I doubt she will come out and admit it. Maybe look at this as a lesson learned, and keep money in the bank.

Not a good idea to accuse someone without proof. Next time try a bank.

You can't steal from yourself. I have no idea why your parents would think this is your fault. I hope you will confront the thief.
