When a cat has kittens , can there be more than one dad to the litter. I got told that there can be a few to a litter, but my fella and his father, my father in law are saying that there can only be one. I always thought that a cat mates with as many males as she wants, then she releases her eggs. I could be wrong so i would be gratefully for your answers. There must be someone out there who can help me!!!

you are right there can be more than one dad for kittens
because a female cat is a induced ovulater ie they have to be mated before they release their eggs it is possible for them to fall pregnant from the initial tom and then the toms for about twenty four to thirty six hours afterwards that mate with her depending on their swimmers !!!!
this is why some cats have a litter appear to have finished and will then have another 1-2 kittens 24 hours later
its unusual but does happen

Angela is takling rubbish, male cats have little barbs on their willies, when they withdraw it stabs a bit [hence the yowling] and this induces ovulation, so every time they have sex, they release an egg, cats wombs are doubled, ie they are horn shaped, so eggs are released into the wombs, and the sperm finds them, this means that every kitten in the litter could have a different father, also one womb can deliver kittens, and the other side can in theory deliver the next batch a few days later, tho usually its not more than 24 hours, my cat had two full term kittens, and she miscarried two very premature kittens a day later, two were in one wombside, and two were in the other, the vet said she probably miscarried them because the two full term ones were born healthy, and the other two would have been too demanding.
one was grey, one was tabby, the prem ones didnt have their fur, so I couldnt tell.

Cats are induced ovulators - meaning the act of mating causes them to release eggs. They can get pregnant when they are already pregnant if they're mated, so a single litter can indeed have different fathers.
My sister's cats were from the same litter but have different fathers - one is half british blue, the other isn't.
You can tell your fella and his dad this. Cat's reproductive systems are pretty different from ours, and dogs!

Yes, a cat can have a litter with several fathers. Breeders who are not careful can end up with a litter of mixed parentage which means not even the pure-breds can be sold as such. That's why they keep them in cages or in the house. A litter of siamese is the most obvious - as the tabbies and mongrels stand out.

You're probably right! Cats can have kittens from several different fathers because, unlike humans, they have more than one egg at the same time. If two cats mated with yours, multiple eggs could have been fertilized by different sperm. I have heard that this can happen with several other animals as well, including dogs.

There can be more than 1 father a cat can call for days and mate on many occasions.As a breeder of cats you have to be only too aware if you have a calling girl if they get out they will mate with any tom.

Kelly you are right. cats can have kittens by several different fathers. i've had litters like it from my cat. some kittens were tabby and some black and white. i've even had 3 tabby kittens and 1 white. it happens just as you thought. don't listen to your fella in this instance he isn't correct. still men will argue and they must know by now we only argue when we know we're right! lol. good luck with telling him he's wrong

There can be lots, rather than an spearm getting together with an egg the male cats sperm latch on to the female kittys womb so sperm from many different cats can latch on giving kittens from different dads! Its true.

There can be. In fact I have two kittens from the same mother, but they are not the same breed of kittens. One is really big and looks Maine Coon and the other is average. She had two males mating with her when she became pregnant.
