The following could be the reasons:
1.While fielding, batsmen are relatively free and with less burden compared to bowlers and wicket keeper. The bowlers have to think about their own strategy.
2. Bowlers are prone to either over bowl or under bowl themselves.

I don't think it's dependant on what the player's role in the team is, I think it depends on the qualities they possess to lead the team to victory. Being a bowler, Allrounder, Wicket Keeper, or batsman etc. doesn't make a difference.

An interesting point to note is the success of some of the bowler captains: S Pollock, C Walsh, C Ambrose, W Akram, H Streak, W Younis

and the success of batsmen : S Waugh, R Ponting, B Lara(???), R Dravid ...

I could go on all day

Each batman is also a bowler,it is a different thing that some doesn't bowl and bowlers are totally inexperienced in terms of batting so how would they control their team. That's why normally all-rounders are picked as the captains of their teams.I can also give some examples-S Pollock for S Africa,Kapil Dev for India,V Richards for W Indies,W Younis for Pakistan and S Malik too which has recently got the responsibility to control his team and lots of others.

Captains of any team should always be the most competant person to lead the team , have a good standing with the members of the team and have leadership abilities such as grooming others, use of best available talent, backing players whom he feels needs it and risk taking abilities.
If a player like that stands out it does not matter whether he is a batsman, bowler , keeper or even a fielder.
What matters is keeping that mental resolve and consistency?
Outstanding bowlers like Imran Khan comes to mind.

not like that
look at freddie
he is captian of england for world cup
and we can say that kapil dev

they are all rounders

but ball well then they bat

so there is a fact behid that

a batsman always know the mentality of the opposite batsman
so he knows where to place feilding
but should be strategies
and batsman got less inguries than bowlers do

there is not a big issue that captain is bowler or batsman

team always depends upon captain
if captain knocks other team it will rise the team self respect or confidence.

so in the end its is better to have a batsman captain than bowler captain.

I think the batsmans hold a greater responsibility to make the team win. Suppose you have a team, if in a one day match none of your bowlers can get a wicket then the match is not a gone case for you because you still have all your batsman ready. But if none of your batsmans can score a single run then the match is definately over.

Circket is a batmens game majority of the matches are won by batting performances and very few are won by bowlers that could be the reason most of the captains were batsmen and very few were good bowlers or the top all rounders.

Bedi as a captain was a big joke. I think bowlers are less likely to succeed as captain because of the conflict of interest reasons. They won't give others to bowl in a hope to get more wickets for themselves.

If you remember.... Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Shaun Pollock, C. Walsh, Heath Streak, Flintoff,,,,,

all of the above were fast bowlers and captains.

Captaincy just require experience, good thinking brain and leadership deosnt if its a Bowler, Batsman or Keeper.
