This is right up my alley... I love to decorate... Go to www.potterybarn.com and look at their kids nursery things. www.companykids.com is a good site too.. And for the really wide ideas go to www.poshtots.com. I decorated my little guys room in bright colors and patterns. No 'themed' items. I figured he's soon be a toddler and have his own interest and I was right! When I learned I was expecting Riley I painted walls in lime green... Made polka dot matted & framed wall art, bought polka dot and striped bedding. It turned out gourgeous. I had a miscarriage, and now have an empty, cool nursery... But we are still trying & everythings set up for next baby! Good luck to you!!

We had a girl and her room is a garden room. The nursery room was painted greetn so we painted flowers coming up from the baseboard and butterflies flying in the room. We even painted the old ceiling fan white and put butterflies and dragon flies on each blade. We always said it it was a boy we would have put white hashlines on the wall and make it a football themed room. If you are on a budget, target has some cute stuff. I like the sports themes or the train themes but I have never been big on the "sponge bob", "mickey" , etc themes...
Good luck and congrats

I just like the fish tank suggestion, it sounds very fashioned, and it is not a boyish topic both. You can enhance the tank with purple pebbles and corals/rocks/decorations, and so on. One factor to maintain in brain in case you do the fish tank suggestion, it may be difficult to scrub in case you don't seem to be close a supply of water. If the nursery is subsequent to a rest room although, I wager you are ready!

We didn't have much when I had my first child....So, I repurposed existing furniture... My husband had an old in great condition dresser with a nice wide top...So, we use it as a changing table/dresser. Just buy the foam changing thingie attach it to the back of the dresser and it works quite nicely... My father in law cleaned it and painted it glossy white. We also got a hand me down chiffarobe (sp. sorry). Which is like a mini dresser/with a mini closet which we painted glossy white. Just try and get furniture that can grow with the children.. We can just remove the changing pad and its' still a really nice dresser. So, try garage sales, thrift stores and you can find some really neat things.. Just be creative..

my kid is 4 now.
we went to ikea and let him pick out his decorations. he was almost 2 and selected thomas the engine comforter set and car stickers for the wall.
we never really had a nursery cause his crib was always in my room.
ikea is really cool.
