my reason is i love guitars and i want to play for fancy restaurants or cruises, so i'll have to be good.

if i practiced for like 4 years straight would i be good enough to play for people?

Buy a beginner's guitar book that has chords, illustrations to help you with the guitar, and basic music theory.

Hire an instructor. You can easily learn bad habits in forming chords and make it difficult to change through the years.

Begin with an acoustic guitar. The term "Spanish guitar" was the former name given for an acoustic guitar.

Learn chords first, run-ins or riffs second, and leading third. Concentrate on chord progressions, rhythm, reading and writing music as you focus on your singing style.

If you will be soloing at fancy restaurants or cruises it is not necessary to play an electric guitar. An acoustic guitar may be amplified in several ways.

Dedicating yourself through the strong will to play well will make the object of playing for others a reality.

Be mindful of other guitarists and their style of playing. Develop your own style once you have mastered the basic skills.

Good luck and work at getting those calluses thickened.

It really depends how fast you learn. Firstly, though, you should master the acoustic guitar and then move on to electric and finally spanish.
