I tend to agree with your feelings here but, at the same time, I think the McCann's have had to put up with a lot of criticism because of THEIR class, their good looks, intelligence and apparent affluence. Comments like "they should have known better, both being doctors" for instance. We are none of us above making a mistake. They know they made one and they are really paying for it. No matter what people say about money pouring in and the McCann's getting a "free trip round Europe" the fact is their child was stolen.
What they did is probably fairly common, I imagine, in families of all social classes when they are on holiday be it at Butlins or ClubMed; the difference here is that leaving their children had such an unforeseen outcome.
We live in a society only too ready to judge others harshly and, on the whole, I think you are right - less classy, less articulate, plainer, less well-connected, poorer people would have been soundly blamed and they would, I think, have become "yesterday's news" much more quickly than the McCann's.

Of course you're right. It is the way of the class system. Wealthy people with social standing will always get treated better than poor, lower socio-economic people. That's just the facts of life as unfortunate as they are. Just the fact that this case has garnered world wide publicity to the degree it has echoes that. Having said that though, my heart still aches for the family and the poor little girl. Any mother or father would know that this is the worst possible scenario in life, especially never knowing where she is. The fact is the McCanns will have to live with the decision they made to leave the children unattended due to naivety or carelessness every day for the rest of their lives. It will be like a living death for them, always wondering (presuming she is not found). Their twins' lives will also be affected forever as well. It is a tragedy. We all hope that Madeleine will be found but the likelihood of this happening is looking highly unlikely. God bless her and all the other poor, innocent children that have gone missing.

I really do feel sorry for the parents, but i feel if this had happened here in the uk and they had left them on their own, I think the authorities would have had a lot to say about it and the family investigated. Especially if they were from a lower class family living on a council estate. Personally I would never leave my children alone on holiday, not in a different country anyway. God knows what they are really going through we cannot see them when they are behind closed doors can we? Heres hoping she turns up safe and well xxx

You are right, probably not ...but it's the little girl we care most about and it would be wonderful if she was found alive. This could happen to any family ...how can her parents carry on when there is no resolution...it's monstrous.
