Corks are actually condensed (squeezed) when placed into a bottle. The corker actually acts like a funnel when it pushes it through.
Even if you can get a corker partially back in the bottle, it's not a good seal.

The truth is that you will never get the wine sealed as air-tight as it was before you opened it. The shelf life on a bottle of wine is about 2-3 days before it turns into a great cooking wine, but not good for drinking. If you don't want to rush out to your local liquor store to purchase contraptions that "seal" the bottle, simply turn your swelled cork up-side-down and re-insert into the mouth of the bottle. If you are an avid wine consumer, you may start to notice that real wood corks are hard to come by these days. You still must turn the cork around to fit it into the mouth of the bottle. Hope that helps!

Put it in upside down.
The top part is always more narrow than the bottom part, so stick the top part in the bottle and push it down enough so that the bottle is sealed. You'll have half the cork sitting out of the bottle, and it's really easy to pull it out when you want another glass.

It's not easy. I purchased a few of those caps for wine bottles... rubber "cork" that expands when the little metal lever is adjusted. All liquor stores have them.

you can't re insert it because a lot of pressure was on the cork in the bottle

I would purchase a 'sealer' cork for your wine, but good wine should be allowed to 'Breathe' whilst being consumed, Have a good day.

I keep mine moist when I remove it from the bottle.
Or, I just don't leave the cork out that long.

When I was young I use to watch my dad do the same thing and as stupid as it seems. It work.
Just put them in hot water until boiled, take them out and insert them immediately into the bottle. When they cool out they expand in size and they closed the bottled.
Thanks Dad.

Whittle it down.
I use rubber corks from Ikea, they're very good.
