Last night as I was falling asleep I began to see a circle of incredible patterns and colours. I heard myself think it's a collidascope and then about 10 minutes after heard myself think mandela. Now I know that there is some sort of circular pattern in Buddhism called something like a madella, I think it's used for meditation. But I have never studied or used these things.

Because, for some reason, your brain pulled it out of your memory. It has no real significance. It is just a dream.

Yes Mandala is used in two ways that I recollect. As the wheel of life. That is the cycle of birth, life and death. Mandala practice is also used as an offering tool for the Buddhist practitioner. These images are always there with us. The images are unique to the individual. The mind has to be stilled to notice.. I hope this helps a little because its a big subject and needs someone more adept than I to explain fully

sounds like you have an interest in guitar. I suggest that you look into a private lesson with someone who is a real instructor because you may have a hidden talent. You do not mention you age, but it doesn't matter because I have been inspired from dreams of music too. You can use these inspiring dreams to create and have fun. I am 43 and still have musical dreams. If you choose lessons get a background check and if you are a minor make sure your family knows. If your family doesn't approve you still have help from school and guidance counselor. Just do not go with a stranger.

The mandala is a symbol that translates acrost various belief systems. I love Carl Jung for his work in symbols and dreams and the mandalas as well.. He has several books out there on the subject. I am sure you could find a copy online somewhere by way of Google.

Perhaps it's a cognition rather than just a dream. We can gain knowledge from the outside and the inside as well. If you had some sense of what it was, then that is a very good sign.
