What Ms-Dos software are trying to run? old Dos program and software can not run in window XP. it may just loadup and endup very quickly. That because Win XP is running too FAST. even you got a very computer.( seen your PC can handle XP ) or you Dos software may not have the XP system driver to run.

Yes if you have Windows 7 Pro just run the XP Mode emulator, basically a virtual XP Machine running on windows 7

Most MS-DOS software won't run in XP, even in compatibility mode, due to driver issues, etc.
Any good DOS Game should also be available for Windows. Google for it.

try running the software with windows 95 compatible in MS-DOS.

Go to Start > Run. Type cmd or cmd.exe and press enter.
Command Prompt will appear and continue~

start > all programs > accessories > command prompt
Your dos screen window will pop-up with command prompt and you can select the drive and run the prog.
