basically you want a middle range graphics card, you have to find out what you board can support e.g. AGP Slot or PCI-e, once you know that, go on a site and browse what you want...personally i would get a XFX GeForce 7600GT 256MB DDR3 Dual DVI HDTV 560Mhz 8xAGP or the same XFX GeForce 7600GT XXX Edition 256meg DDR3 Dual DVI HDTV SLI PCI-E(650Mhz) on pci-e its available on both slots ..so yeah..i recommend a nvidea geforce 7600+ nothing under a 7600, those cards are around 180 bucks. As for installing, you just undo your case, might be two screws, then take out the old one if any and put slide the new one in, screw it in, then start your pc and install the stuff on the cd that came with your card, really simple.

Graphic card basically calculates the pixel (dots) that you see on your screen. In other words, they "draws" all the image you see on your monitor.

But in modern application like PC games, everything is in 3D, and to render a 3D scene, you need very powerful graphic card to do all the calculation. Or if you do 3D designing, your graphic card will do the rendering of your 3D image.

Modern games have complex 3D scene to be rendered, so you'll want to have a fast and powerful graphic card to do the job. How fast of a graphic card you need, that will depends on your usage. Do you play alot of modern 3D games where everything looks realistic? Or you don't use your PC to play any modern 3D games.

The graphic cards are priced according to their performance, so in buying a graphic card, you'll have to balance it out between your requirement and your budget. You don't need the fastest graphic card to run a game, but depending on the speed of the card, you'll have to compromise the game graphic quality and the speed (as in how many frames per second, higher is better).
