No, it is not the biggest question that can ever be asked. Howver, it is believed that an unbalance in an indescribable state of energy created the big bang.
Simple, isn't it ?

Father Lemieteur postilated it was formed by a "singularity" or Primordial Atom.

Basically, it is thought ALL the mass of the universe (all the stars and planets out there) once were compacted (the Big Crunch theory) into a singularity. A hugh irregular ball of mass that was so dense not even light could escape.

Internally fusion started from the atoms being compacted and when these atoms fused Gamma Particles were released along with heat, photons of light and at one point the amoung of fusion became super great and the singularity exploded outwards releasing mass into the universe in all forms.

Most of it was postuatlated to be free atoms and charged particles which were very hot and combined to make the various elements starting with hydrogen.

As for WHAT there are two primary theories.

One listed above GOD

The Fusion was started by an intellegence, just like the A-bomb made by Oppenheimer was ignited by the push of a button by Oppenheimer or one of his people.

The other theory is: RANDOM ACCIDENT. Serendipity.

In short it JUST HAPPENED on it's own.

not the biggest question ever but the big bang was not an explosion but an expansion of space. no one knows what happened in the first instant after the big bang known as the 'planck era' but at the end of this period they believe that gravity split from the other forces of nature, followed by the strong nuclear force. this event triggered 'inflation'- a short but rapid expansion. during inflation, a fantastic amount of mass-energy came into exsistance, in tandem with an equal but negative amount of gravitational energy. by the end of inflation, matter had began to appear.

we can't really give a perfect answer for that........besides,the big bang theory is only the most widely believed theory and there are other theories to the creation of the universe.since it was all the matter of the universe compiled in to a big ball it is believed to be because of energy instabilities.it might hav been due to fusion reaction which gives out hell a lot of energy and also because of its density.
