Mohammed (in all its various spellings is the 2nd most popular name for boys in the UK with 7,576 babies registered by that name or a variant of it. This compares with 8,007 Jacks and 7,413 Olivers. So even just taking the two most popular non Muslim name on the list, there are already twice as many non Muslim names as Muslim names in the top 10. 26,815 different boys' names and 34,043 different girls' names were registered. The Sun said on Sept 9th: "The Muslim name Mohammed is now the third (sic) most popular for baby boys in the country, new figures revealed last night. And it is predicted to be No1 within TWO YEARS. Experts say the number of baby Mohammeds shows the huge growth in the UK's Muslim population." Odd though, it doesn't say what "experts" or what "source" this prediction comes from. Out of 708,711 live births, 7,576 is just over 1%. New Sun headline: Shocking new figures out today suggest that 99% of babies born in the UK are NOT called MOHAMMED. Where's the story gone when you focus on those figures, eh? So much for the Sun's "huge growth" declaration. But then Sun readers can't add up can they? I think people need to see the figures for what they really are, not listen to a media who rely on public ignorance of basic maths to get away with a shoddy piece of silly season journalism. All my thumbs down are from Sun readers who never got as far as the end of my answer!

No it won't - it will be the most popular name chosen for a boy this year.
7000 kids were named Jack last year, compared to 6000 named Mohammed.
Think about how what you're saying can be totally misconstrued - it does not mean that the country is being "overrrun" by Muslims, and is the type of story that the BNP would just love to misrepresent, and which - by the looks of some of the posts above - other bigots, who are unable to see statistics as the meanlingness numbers that they actually are.

It says 2 things. The first is that people will believe anything if its written on the net, and two......The birth rate throughout the world is supposedly 6 Asian newborns for every 10 births worldwide. Now that is a scary statistic especially if youre of Anglo Saxon heritage because if those numbers are right, then Anglos will be a minority oneday.....unless something catastrophic happens to half the Asians races in the world!!!

Muslims have no imagination when it come to names. They are limited to the names in the Koran.
Essentially whilst its a tragedy that mohammed will be the most popular this is only because the rest of the UK actually have a greater number of names to use.
But you can be sure that muslims will feel they have achieved something by breeding like rabbits at the expense of the tax payer and naming their children with the same names! - i'd rather be English any day!
Just had a thought - imagine being a teacher and having to do the register in the morning.... mohammed - yes miss, mohammed - yes miss, mohammed yes yes yes ---- DOH!

This statistic is indicative of nothing. Firstly there is a higher birth rate amongst the Muslim community. Secondly, Mohammad ( and it's variations ) is by far and away the most comon boys name for Muslims whereas non-Muslim boys are called a wider range of names.
It's just a meaningless little factoid for Daily Mail readers to get their knickers in a twist about.

its not racist or against the muslims because you want to preserve what is left of english culture.
I am all for diversity, but not when it comes at the price of obliterating our own country's traditions and uniqueness.
Shi'ite law courts are starting to take over british law courts is another example of this, and its getting ridiculous
Just because people don't want our country trampled into a subservient second rate islamic- copy country doesn't mean they are racist, it means they have pride.
