I don't think the Star Trek ship is really sinking. There's always a place for intelligent science-fiction.
But these are violent times where people seem to care more about war, action, etc. and of course profit.
If movie producers and especially studios manage it to care about the story again, Star Trek will return.

I would hope that Beerman etalia DONT do a prequel........we know what Kirks life was like and I have NO interest in Kirk at the Academy or a JG or whatever......
besides never being able to identify Bakula as anything other than Quantum Leap, and some bad writing, ENT failed because, well, we dont really care about the early days of the Federation.....we had 7 years of TNG, 7 years of DS9 and 7 years of VOY building up story lines and histories and conflicts.......and then that whole world stopped......besides the great acting writing and sets, we want to know what happens with the Borg......does Cisco ever get out of the n dimensional space lock with Gul Dukat;.what about the Others, the war with the Cardassians; the Marquis; will Q ever get his come-uppance; how the hell did Janeway get promoted to Admiral over Picard.......there are a half dozen great story lines from TNG DS9 that are unresolved; and while we dont need to have Avery Brooks and Patrick Stewart and Brent Spinner et al running around on our TV screens 20 years older than we last saw them, there are stories we care about that anew generation of officers need to continue.....just PLEASE leave Wesley Crusher where ever he is......far far far away

I heard a rumor that a prequel is being discussed starring Matt Damon as a young Captain Kirk and it will be directed by JJ Abrams.
But I think you might be correct in that there will be no more TV shows for quite a while after "Enterprise's" failure to catch on. And I don't think there will be any more TNG or origional Trek movies either.
But I wouldn't feel too sad, compared to Star Wars or LOTR fans who have maybe a combined 21 hours of movies to enjoy. There are literally HUNDREDS of hours of the Star Trek universe to watch and enjoy.

I hate Star Trek but I believe that shows like star trek are still a popular culture and maybe even the collectables(if there are any) will be very valuable in the future.

Not at all. If the original could last for 40 years, why can't every one of the spin offs last that long as well? The subject of space travel is fascinating anyway, and when you add all the little time traveling and mind reading bonuses in there, it turns out to be some mighty fine science fiction.

There isn't any more Star Trek being made as far as I know.
Is that what you mean.
