The difference is the octane RATING (gasoline does not contain any chemical called OCTANE). Higher octane RATING means it resist detonation (self ignition) from high pressure better. Detonation can cause major damage to your engine.
But higher octane RATING doesn't mean is higher quality. Some cars just need higher octane rated gasoline. Some cars don't.

Super gas does NOT burn hotter, slower, get better mileage, get more power, etc. That's just ignorance talking. You CANNOT damage your car by using higher octane rated gasoline. No car company will (nor can) void your warrany for using super gas. PERIOD!
Other than knock resistance, Super and regular gas are exactly the same (from same company). PERIOD.

When you open you flap that cover your gas cap, it should say if it needs super gas (or not). You should only need to use the octane recommended by your car manufacturer not higher (that would be a waste of money). The only exception is if your (old) car starts knocking, then you should switch.

The difference between the two is octane.
Most of the time, regular unleaded is 87 octane. Super is 89, and Premium is 91 or 95.
This indicates the burning temperatures and the potential energy output of each one. With each of these octanes, there is a different set of additives in each which gives it a specific octane. Super is designed to burn at a higher temperature than regular unleaded, and give off more energy since it burns hotter.
There are two issues with putting in a higher octane than what the manufacturer recommends. 1) If damage occurs on your vehicle due to using a higher octane than recommended, it can void out your vehicle's warranty since you did not use the manufacturer's recommended fuel. This is also the same for all other fluids. 2) If you use a higher octane constantly, you can damage engine and emmission components due to the high temperature. Most sensors and relays are set to sense a specific range of temperatures, but many times, prolonged use of high octane will run the engine hotter, therefore either damaging these sensors or giving you false warning lights on the instrument cluster.

Super unleaded fuel, through it's higher octane figure, burns hotter than simple unleaded and you get more power from your engine with the same fuel consumption.

Super has a higher octane rating - equivalent to the old four star petrol. It's for engines that have a higher compression ratio.
If your engine has a low compression ratio, there's no advantage in using super, though you can use it if there's nothing else.
You can't do it the other way round, though - a high-compression-ratio engine must have super, or it'll get damaged (eventually).

to me is the difference of a broken engine or not.
If you have an import car or a high performance car it should be ran on super.
This is close ron to the ron level in Japan.
Running on unleaded can course major engine problems.
When i had my 200sx it wouldnt even run on unleaded,all that would happen would be my car jumping and coughing.
On a full tank of (super) £50 which mine takes,this means compared to unleaded cost me around £3.00 more but saves on my engine going bang and better performance.

The super unleaded has more anti-knock additives to allow higher compression without detonation and knocking or pinging of the engine. good luck

the amount of octane in the petrol. Higher octane is meant o equal better performance. some cars (especially jap imports) are designed to run on high octane.
