I just saw Babel on DVD (I know, late). There are some scenes that r troubling and I feel it overpowers a movie I would have otherwise really liked.
The Japanese girl and her sexual desperation, throwing herself at men, flashing herself, it was so sick and troubling. Are the viewers in Japan ok with one of their actresses roles in a major hollywood movie?
The Moroccan boy who masturbates instead of watching the goats!!
The married couple who end up kissing while she pees! Who does this? Is it because they thought they almost lost each other (if she died because of the shooting) and wanted that physical reassurance. But why when she's peeing??
There's too many other scenes that make you queasy. What about the Mexican nanny? Does she really have sex with some random guy at the wedding?
The movie is good and made some emotional connections but personally those scenes put me off the whole movie. Did anyone else feel like this??

Once again: read the ques and answer accordingly. I asked other ppl who FELT the same way as I did to respond. Those who were troubled by some scenes in the movie. If you loved the movie, sex and all, good for you but dont answer questions that dont refer to you.

I agree. I have warned my friends not to watch this kiddy porn. If i were to watch this on the internet I could be arrested and this guy won an Oscar. This guy has Sting syndrome. the belief that "I'm an artist and when I say F***, It's artistic and if you didn't like it, that's because you don't get it."
You are right, most of those scenes could have never been shot and maybe the message could have come across better.
About the nanny, the random stranger was not random. He was an old love who had not left Mexico and they hadn't seen each other in a long time.

I think you've missed the point. Babel is a wonderful, thought-provoking film, that was about connections and communication (or lack of), but you seem mostly to have focused on the few sexual parts of the film.

These scenes were very powerful and didn't make me feel queasy at all. I don't understand why people get so hung up on scenes of a sexual nature, sex is part of life, so why shouldn't it be in films.

Young boys do masturbate, and the young girl was desperate for love, not sex in my opinion, she was just confused.

It was just a brilliant film, you should get rid of your hang ups and watch it again.

I really didn't like the movie because it showed a lot of disturbing stuff. I thought that that little boy masturbating was so wrong they didn't need to show that. Watching that movie just made me think how gross people are
