Hurricanes, typhoons, and cyclones are exactly the same-except for where they form. Hurricanes in the Atlantic and East Pacific, typhoons in the West Pacific, and cyclones in the Indian Ocean and South Pacific. However, tornadoes are a completely different phenomenon and are much more localized, small scale "twisters", that can at times have winds of nearly 300 MPH (WAY higher than the most powerful hurricanes).

Yes I agree that these terms can be confusing. First off Hurricanes, Typhoons and Cyclones are all the same. They all come in from the sea and are powered by the warm waters, this is the reason why we don't get them in the UK. Hurricanes are what English people call them. Typhoons are Japanese and Cyclones are the other Asians. Tornadoes are completely different they come when hot air and cool air meet and puncture a layer above and then a tornado starts to appear and come out of the clouds and hits the Earth Please don't get mixed up between these two they are like opposites to each other.

They are named depending on what sea they are in" ATLANTIC = HURRICANES, TYPHOONS = NORTHWEST PACIFIC OCEAN, CYCLONE = INDIAN OCEAN !!! Also, storms that form below the equator spin in the opposite dirrection than a hurricane of the north Americas and Caribbean seas!
Hope this helps. Also try your SEARCH ENGINES -- YOU'LL GET SCADS OF INFO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aunt Barbie

They all look almost the same.
One with wind and water.
The other is only wind.
But look around on who is being swept off the land like swiping off an ant-hill with seven times of extra ordinary power in own backyards.
Ever wonder who were communicating out there with earth, wind ,fire, water and plagues out there in own backyards?

The first two depend on the direction of the spin of the storm. not sure about a cyclone other than its a TWISTER and not a vast storm.
