My son is almost 6 months old and we have been putting rice cereal in his formula and feeding him rice cereal in between formula feedings. He seems to still be hungry though.

What are the best solid foods to start him on?
Should I mix it with his rice cereal?

Thank you :)

Burning Brightly - Actually no, I don't have much family. Both our moms are deceased, so I don't have anyone to ask, that's why I came here.

Thank you to everyone who gave me polite answers :)

Dont let anyone tell you you waited too long to start your child on solid foods. SHAME ON ANYONE GIVING THIS WOMAN A HARD TIME. My doctor didnt have me start my daughter on solid foods UNTIL SHE WAS READY. Meaning, when it appeared that 8oz of formula five times a day was not enough (happened around six months and she has always been in the 95th percentile). My doctor recommended introducing one veggie once a week (we did it over 3-4 days instead as there is no history of food allergies in either family). After the veggies, all the fruits and then meats. Good Luck!!

As long as ur son does not have any allergy he cld be fed anything that U cook to eat. 6 month old infants can be fed veggies, cereals, meat like poultry, fish, eggs, etc. So let him enjoy the food U prepare for the whole family. One thing tho...be careful on the size of the food that U feed. Large sizes will definitely choke him. Also, see to it that U don't feed him too much fatty foods for he will surely develop diarrhea. This is fat intolerance. This is common esp for beef. Make sure that U give him 4-5 oz of water 1 hr before he eats. Water helps him digest his food properly and therefore prevents him from having indigestion or much gas.

6 months already and only rice cereal? He must be tiny or very patient with you for not starting him on more than just milk at 3 months , the standard age when the infant needs more than milk.
Not to worry, as he will catch up in no time.

How do you know if your baby is ready for solid foods? Your baby may be 3 months old or 4 months old when you start to feel she may need "something more" than formula or breastmilk. Maybe she is beginning to awaken more often at night or eat more often than "usual" and you wonder if introducing solid foods may be what she needs. Please keep in mind that a growth spurt will occur between 3-4 months of age. Your baby may begin to wake more frequently at night for a feeding and/or may being to eat non-stop (cluster feed) as she once did as a newborn.
There is a lot of material to go by so here is the website

Green beans,Carrots,Peas are good to start off but you can only do one baby food a week so they if they get a allergic reaction you know which food it was. Get fruits to like Bananas,Pears,Peaches same once a week you can mix the baby food with cereal but i would do fruits. So one week you can do a veggie then next week do a fruit

You might be able to do things like level one baby food. Fruits and veggies in that. You should talk to your doctor before doing anything, but I'm sure that you can do that. Our doctor told us to start on fruit and vegie baby food at 6 months. My daughter was the same way and once we started giving her more baby food, she was better. She still needs plenty of milk, though!

Try applesauce, or any of the step1 baby foods, but you would be smart to only do one at a time to see if the baby is allergic to it.
