Firstly, general beliefs have altered. Photographs from space have helped to change how we think about the planet and its place within the universe.

Secondly, the research into new technologies has had a direct impact upon everyday life: kitchen foil, chip technology, aeorspace research. Basically, new materials, ideas and technologies.

The most important is that we're still expecting to achieve something, whereas in earlier times it was thought that there was nothing out there for us and nothing to achieve - no hopelessness in that we're not sitting back waiting to die!
There have also been many innovations/inventions which have come out of the "space chase"! Too numerous to mention but things we now consider to be everyday household items, plus clothing, construction materials, etc.
