I hate to say it but genetics do play a part in this! There are several ways to work on gaining velocity which requires working your whole body but mainly your legs and mid section! It also could be your mechanics so it is tough to gain that! When I was in college at 19 I was hitting 94 on the high end and 91 on the low end with my fast ball I wanted to hit 100 but as I said some times it's just genetics! You can't make someone a gold medal sprinter if the were slow to begin with! But work on it and you should be able to tack on 3-6 mph!

From what you are saying your game appears to be much more advanced than the casual player. When you get to the place you are now it will be the little things that will get you to where you want to be. Sometimes it can be as simple as an adjustment in the mechanics of your delivery or the way you grip the ball. If you really want to pick up velocity you are going to have to find a good pitching coach to help you. Remember, you don't want to give up control for velocity, that's why your friend throws harder than you but you are the ace.

First of all work out your legs by making them stronger and more limber. This is so that you can wind up with a higher leg kick and put more weight on the front foot; The left if you are a right handed pitcher and the right if you are a left handed pitcher. Also try having your release point more to your side than over the top.

building up core muscles and leg strength would let you generate more power on your throw. remember that velocity isn't everything, throwing 90mph strikes on the corners is better than throwing 94 mph with no command.

quick answer: build up your forearms and grip the ball deeper in your hand. look online for interviews with guys like hideo nomo, nolan ryan, and frank tanana. they all discussed at length why they were able to throw as hard as they were.
