how can i differentiate between genders. one of mine has a little piece of what looks like excess skin on its lip which is normal but the other doesn't also normal

The female is larger and deep bodied.

Not a lot of difference between the sexes, but as adults the female will be larger, thicker and higher through the middle, and will have an ovipositor (white tube through which the eggs are laid), but this is typically seen only when she's in spawning condition.
