First off, AK47 is classified as an assult weapon, and both full-auto and semi-auto AK47s are legal in the US, but differ by states.

Semi-auto AK47s are legal in most of the states. However, there are a few states that do not allow assult weapons (ie, New York and California), so you won't be allowed to have an AK47 in those states.

Full-auto AK47s are classified as Class III weapons. There are hand full of states that will allow citizens to acquire Class III weapons (ie, Arizona, Texas...etc). In order to acquire any Class III weapon, you will need to pass a background check by FBI, and pay additional $200 fee (on top of the price tag) to each individual Class III weapon. You will also have lots more responsibilities to the weapon...

I am not sure, but I would think not. They, like the M16 are automatic weapons, unlike the AR 15. If this is wrong I will change it! I think it is illegal to sell an AK47, though I knew some guys in Nam who tried sending them home 1 piece at a time

AK 47, the automatic version are illegal, but they produce a semi automatic one which I understand are plentiful.
