the vehicle was overheating, so i replaced the thermostat and the housing and flushed the coolant. when i replaced the battery and both the positive and negative terminals, now when i turn the key i get no responce whatsoever from the battery. did i ground somthing wrong? is there a diagram i can check?

You might be able to get some info free of charge at autozone.com or you could get the shop manual from your local library.

Check for a blown fuse or fusible link wire burned out....sounds like you shorted something out or didn't connect something right when replacing cables.
