My first home computer (1993) is till running.
I would not want to use it for anything - it is too slow, too noisy and doesn't do much.
In other words, the hardware will outlast the usefulness of the hardware.
Unless something breaks, like a power supply or a hard disk (two common items).
In a business environment many computers run 24 hours a day in a normal office environment.
The non-moving parts of a computer (chips mostly) have, in theory, a very very long life.

it all depends on the quality of the parts, how well it is maintainted, and just plain luck but the rule of thumb is that a brand new top of the line computer should last 4 to 5 years after that period it will be obsolete it still may work great but it will be lacking compared to the ones that will have come out after it

The question should be, How long will the computer be able to do what I need it to do.
You say home use, FOR WHAT, running big, fast 3D games, typing notes in NotePAD, Surfing but not demanding much???
The computer will last???. But will you be happy with what it is capable of doing.
SO, next time, give us more info and we'll give better answers.
PS: How long will a car last if you only use it in a parking lot ;-)
