My old dishwasher left food on plates, put film on dishes, esp. glass, did not clean silverware. So I finally purchased a new one, but it does the same. Repairman said he could find nothing wrong with it. I have tried different dishwasher soaps, I have put that stuff in that is supposed to abolish spotting, the water is hot enough, and I have tried using less soap then more soap. We have hard water here, it is a small town. We have a water softener and a filter on the water supply line. Could the softener not be working correctly? What could possibly cause this. I really like having a dishwasher, probably my favorite appliance. But I sometimes put the dishes through 2 or 3 times and they still come out with bits of food clinging to the dishes and a film on glasses and silverware. I do not understand what could cause this, and neither did the repairmen. There has got to be a reason, surely someone must have the answer.

You have to rinse the dishes well before placing them in the dishwasher. Sound kind of silly, and does not make much sense, but that is the only way to get the dishes clean. You cannot put dishes with food all on them in there.

First, make sure excess food is rinsed off the plates, ensure you use salt (not the 5 in one type) get granular salt and fill up the salt container, ensure spray arms are cleared and ensure when loading the dishwasher the spray arms are not obstructed by anything, use a good rinse aid. If all this fails, then try running a degreaser through the dishwasher, and i don't mean the sort Tesco's or Asda sell, go to a repair shop and buy a quality cleaner, ensuring you don't put it into the dishwasher until the water is getting hot, as most dishwasher have a cold rinse before doing the main wash. Also ensure the outlet hose is higher than the sink waste (if it's plumbed into the sink)

I don't know if this will help you or not but anything is worth a shot...right?
Make sure to rinse your dishes really well. Take great care in stacking the dishwasher. Don't overload it or block the water spray. Try using a liquid soap. They even make it in those new single use sizes. I always use Jet Dry too....I have had good results with it. If you have a "pot scrubber" setting you may want to try that as well.
If all else fails have yourself a couple of kids and buy them yellow, rubber gloves for Christmas! Hehehehe....seriously though.....I sincerely hope this information is of use to you. I know how horrible it can be when you don;t have a working dishwasher. And yes, I agree, it in one of the most important appliances!

Kisses!

Maybe the correct answer is what my wife always does, wash the dishes before you wash them? does this make sense? not to me.

She rinses the dishes off until they're rather clean. then stacks them reverently in the dishwasher making sure nothing is blocked. Then washes them.

In the meantime, I use the sink, the dishwasher is for storage.

Have you checked your water pressure? and your water softener lately. Have you checked your spinners, to make sure they're clean. It does make sense to make sure there are no chunks of food left on the plates before putting them in the washer.
Use the long cycle if you have a choice.

One more thing, most people don't know or understand this, my daughter had only 25 pounds of water pressure, not enough to operate the washer properly.
