Get over the slavery and civil rights issues, we all have come to terms with what happened in America's past, and as far as the floods are concerned, New Orleans had a WEEK's notification that a possible CAT 5 was headed their way. This was not rich versus poor but a breakdown and lack of concern from mayor Ray Naggins and Louisiana Gov. Blanco plain and simple. Any riot that breaks out is because he (Obama) just whispered the key words to the black community and ignited it himself.

Don't worry there will be no riots. I live in Los Angeles. Part of my neighborhood was burning during the "riots". I did not feel any fear (not being african-american). It may have started as people on the street protesting, but once the first store was ransacked and robbed and the police didn't stop it, there were no protesters yelling for equality that I saw. There were people, not just african-americans, who saw that the police were not going to stop them from lawlessness. So they being opportunistic, started breaking into all the businesses and stealing the stuff and then burning to cover it up and make it look like a riot. Those people were laughing and having a good time like it was Christmas day. No, that "riot" was not about being black, it was about being opportunistic and stealing all you could when the police were doing nothing.

I think we're in trouble no matter who gets in next time, but I know without a doubt that we are doubly screwed if Hilary or Obama get in. :"(

Just read the article. Great, a man who is justifying a race war. Just what we need. I don't understand why people don't get that he (Obama) and other Democrats want to keep people down, but they put spin on what's really happening to get people angry, encouraging them to believe that they've been mistreated.

Does anyone realize what a stupid mistake it is to depend on the government for ANYTHING? After Katrina, everyone blamed the President for lack of action by the government. Is government education not taught in schools any more? Anyone who is educated in the process of U.S. government should know that the finger was pointed at the WRONG MAN. People should have run 'Mayor' Nagin out of town for not living up to his responsibilities and having a suitable plan for the people who were too poor to leave the city or simply had no place to go. The governor of Louisiana should be blamed as well...anyone who holds office in Louisiana should be kicked out and newly elected officials need to step in. State government is primarily responsible for outlining plans for their own territory, and when they have reached their limits, THAT is when the Feds step in. There was no plan in place for New Orleans and people died because of Nagin's and the Lousiana state government's ignorance.

As for the riots stemming from the Rodney King trial, I was 15 years old when that happened, but I still knew that there is no excuse whatsoever for people to destroy a city because they don't like a verdict. Grow up, people. The OJ jury was too afraid to convict him for fear of the same result, even though it is SO obvious that he is guilty as sin.

There is racism in every corner of the world. It is WRONG and it is PATHETIC, but we will never escape it completely. People need to get this chip off their shoulders and get some self-respect. No one can give it to you but yourself and starting a race riot even at the silent encouragement of Barack Obama is only going to cause problems for the people who blindly follow him.

I thought in this country today you can be as successful as you want to be, that's what everyone says when talking about the illegals. So that makes one to believe that these people aren't interested in doing better for themselves. As far as what happened in New Orleans , all I saw was people looting all the stores to steal all they could carry. That had nothing to do with them trying to escape any oppression.
Funny he takes up the black cause when it fits his needs but lives like a rich white man.

So you would rather have a ***** like Hillary in the white house?

Obama will get the Democratic Nomination, mark my words.

Hillary is nothing but pretending to be something she is not. She pretends to represent the people, especially the poor, yet she could give a **** about them.

How was he talking about starting riots? If you had actually read the article, you would see that he was stating what led up to the riots. And that was all true. A sense of hopelessness, a legacy of racism and discrimination, lack of jobs etc...

Wow, what was that, a threat?
That's just what we need, a president who encourages people to riot.

although i think racism is a huge social issue to address - esp for the potential first black president - i really think Obama's success will come if the American people will stop viewing him as "the first black president" and start viewing him as "the president", this also applies to seeing Clinton not as "a woman" but as "a leader", a task I believe she is accomplishing much more sucessfully than Obama at this point. Because of America's views of him as a "black politician", he is under much more stress to confront issues such as racism, compared to Clinton who does not face majority public pressure to answer to feminist issues.
