I’m scared because I don’t think it’s ready to support the majority of the MS community.

Well microsoft is phasing out Win XP by January 2008. They are doing this by stopping the OEMs from selling XP as well as support for it including driver updates, things like that. In short yes. They want Vista to work I guess.

Don't worry about it. MS announced recently that they have quit supporting Windows98, but they are still providing security upgrades. I know many people still using Win98 with no problems (after 10 years, they should have the bugs out of it anyway, and all they have to do now is provide a few security updates).

My guess is that WinXP (the latest Windows version before Vista) will be the MS workhorse for at least 4-5 more years. It'll probably take MS that long to get Vista running right.

Baloney. They probably will drop support for Windows 2000 but not XP.

They are due to issue XP service pack three the first quarter of 2008. Does that sound like they are dropping support?

Microsoft will stop selling Windows XP licenses in 2008 and stop selling them to system builders in 2009.

There is no end date set YET for the availability of fixes (service packs) for Windows XP. You should be running XP SP2 now - support for SP1 has ended.

See the link for the facts.

i havent heard about this. but, there will come a time to where they will stop updating, but thats early 2009. its only been about 6 months since Vista been out. For Windows to stop updating XP in 2008 is to soon. All computer companies stop updates 2 years later.

Why be scared, they are going to stop updateing it but 2008 is not in stone as of yet, because of vista's problems and they always extend the time another year even when they post the discontinue date, this is a known fact.

Not quite correct. Microsoft continues mainstream support of XP until Apr 2009, and extended support until Apr 2014.

why would you be scared?
just liek they discontinued suport for win 98, theyll eventually do the same for XP.

Why do it so fast when VISTA isnt even stabalized yet, is beyond me, but more than anything, its a marketing tool.

But then again, Windows XP is pretty stable system now, so what updates will you really need?

Where did you hear it?
And google this question to see if theres any reputable reporting on it.

Personally I think its too soon to stop work on XP, but hey Microsoft is microsoft, it really wouldnt surprise me.

that is correct Ms is forcing you to go to Vista... or stay with what you have...

It comes free. with all the software you will ever need and it will be supported by the big named computer companies.. Dell, HP Compaq, by then. so don't let it wary you to much,,,

I read about it once.
They said they will stop providing supports for xp at the end of this year
The reason is they(Microsoft) want everybody buy and use vista
I can't believe that Microsoft did this to their loyal customers
