Interesting.

I prefer the Seinfeldian method, personally.

(Jerry to telemarketer:)
"Look, I can't talk now, why don't you give me your home number and I'll call you back?"

"Oh, you can't do that? I guess you don't want strangers calling you at home.

Now you know how I feel."

Actually, the best way to get rid of a telemarketer is to get yourself placed on your state and national do not call list. Asking a person if they are naked can be misconstrued as sexual harassment, even though you did not initiate the call. I wouldn't want to place myself in that kind of jeopardy, especially since many of those calls are taped for quality control. In most cases, the person calling you is just doing their job, for which they are getting relatively little pay. The people you should be directing your angst towards are the supervisors (who should know better) and the owners of the phone mill.

If you want to report a telemarketer, contact your public utilities commission. The address and phone number should be on the same page as the state and national do not call lists in the front of your phone book. You will probably have to make a report with your local police department so they can issue a warrant to have the phone number released to the proper agencies. A telemarketer who does not play by the rules can get severely fined, or in some cases shut down completely. I would think that this would give you a lot more satisfaction than asking someone if you are naked.

I cold called insurance prospects as a general lines health, life, and annuities insurance agent for two years between teaching jobs, so I know a few "tricks of the trade"!

Trick 1: Telemarketers, or at least insurance agents, don't call unless you have shown a written interest in their product. For example, perhaps you've filled-out a postcard asking for some information on Colonial Penn.

Trick 2: The FCC forbids telephone solicitations before 9 am or after 9 pm unless the person being called asks the salesperson to do so.

Trick 3: The more calls a telemarketer makes, the more sales he or she is likely to make, so if you aren't interested, politely and succinctly tell him or her and hang up the phone.

Trick 4: The "Do Not Call List" ploy doesn't work if you have requested information about the product. If you have actually contacted the company, the salesperson can legally call you. Nevertheless, most salespeople will mark through your name on a card or list because they want your good will. Sometimes managers recycle these cards or lists, and another salesperson accidentally calls your phone number again.

Trick 5: Finally, don't fill-out a request form unless you are sincerely interested in what the telemarketer is selling. Insurance agents, for example, either buy leads independently or else their company charges them around $150 a month for a list of prospective clients.

That's funny but also a way to get slapped with a sexual harrassment complaint. I usually ask for their home number so I can call them there later in the evening to discuss the matter. Seriously though....
There is this thing called The National Do Not Call List. I don;t have think link for it but it;s really easy to find...just do a Yahoo! search. Fill out the information they ask and within a few days the unwanted calls shoud stop. If they don;t you can report the company and possibly get financial compensation.
However, this is only for telemarketer calls. It does not apply to debt collectors.
I hope this information helps! Oh....and just so you know...yes, I am writing this answer while naked. Is there really any other way to do it??? Hahahahaha!!!!

Kisses!

I heard a great newscast recently where the "victim" of the telemarketer pretended to be a police officer at a crime scene and insisted that the telemarketer come down to the police precinct for questioning because he was the last person to call the diseased. It was very funny.

The best way to get rid of telemarketer.
I have caller id.
I asked them for their telephone number and their name.
I inform them that I am on the "DoNotCall" list
Then I send it to the DoNotCall.gov the caller id so that company will get a $11,000 fine.
The California law is every time a telemarketer call any number that is already on the "DoNotCall" list (over at least a month) will be automatically be issue a $11,000 fine per call.
That resolved my problem.

I was a telemarketeer for a souless year. trust me, if you want some revenge.

Put them on hold!
If you can find cheesy music, all the better.

But act sincere and you really want to talk about their product because one of your friends bought one a few days ago. And then leave them for as long as possible

works for me also.. i usually start by telling them no thank you[ they do not hear that and read off a script] so i ask to hold on for a minute..then leave the phone off the hook, and they are so stupid they keep holding on until they get the message] the funny thing is i did some telemarketing and know that to keep the job you have to make 200 calls per hour or 6 or more hits so when they waste their time holding on, i get my revenge lol and i do like your idea, and i might ask them to describe themselves to me, that will work too

It sucks to be a telemarketer. Try to understand, they kind of are human too. I'd say you try to sell them something instead. A taste of their own medicine.

Example: My home is currently having a special discount. For this one time only price of $99.99, you will have a 50% chance of me buying your product. And if you buy this offer within the next 5 minutes, we will throw one of our children in the deal. Free. Shipping and Handling are not included this offer. Diapers are. One time only offer, what do you say?

I usually try to be confusing, since I can't really come up with anything witty on the spot. If they ask me if I'm there, I'll say yes, later, I'll say no, or say they got the wrong person. Once, I convinced them they got the wrong house and we moved next door, and they bought it. If they call back, I'll just skrew with them some more, but that isn't likely.
