I've been able to play as each different class and I'll give you a rundown on what I think about them.

Warrior - Leveling tends to be pretty slow with them and depending on what race you chose, they can have quite a bit of downtime. In PvP they do very well with good gear, twinking or not. It helps that alot of people need Tanks for instances, atleast there is a lack of them on Perenolde.

Rogue - They are a fun DPS class. Alot of people just say they are ezmode, but they can be a challenge to play. In certain instances and raiding dungeons Rogues go down pretty fast and in PvP you've got to learn a good routine for your abilities. They are cooldown dependant in PvP as well, most of the time, but they pretty much stomp face. In PvE, they pwn stuff up pretty fast and are good for farming.

Priest - Lvling up at the begining sucks, I'm not even going to lie. Once you hit 40 however, everything is soooo much easier. Nowadays, Priests are still a valued healer but Blizzard finally gave Priests a reason to spec Shadow. They melt faces and are a fantastic class to group with, restoring mana/health based off of their shadow damage to everybody in the group. As far as healers go, they are just as good, if not better than they used to be.

Paladin - Blizzard has been showing them some love in terms of dpsing and tanking, so you can get away with speccing something other than healbot. However, Paladins still tend to be the best in terms of endurance with healing. They just keep going and going and in pvp they can usually heal through everybodies dps.

Warlock - Overpowered. That is what you will always hear about them. Theirs dots are amazing, their minions are amazing, and their Mage-like abilities are amazing. If you don't have a Lock and love pvping then roll one, but even in PvE they just demolish everything. It helps that they have very little downtime, atleast if you spec away from Destruction.

Mage - Mages are great for farming and people love to group with them. They can create portals, food, water, and their dps is amazing. When you farm as a Frost spec Mage you can easily take on 5+ mobs with no problem, using blizzard and frost nova. As a fire mage, your dps is extreme and is better suited for one vs one type of situations. In PvP people call some mages "three minute mages" because their burst dps can destroy a person, but they gotta wait a bit to do it again. If you can play one well, that won't matter.

Druid - I loooove this class. Blizzard has shown them so much love as of late. As healers, Druids HoT's are incredible, probably the best. As a caster, they are no longer known as Oomkins (out of manakins). Nowadays, people call them BOOMkins, because they hurt real bad. Tanking, they can do that as well! Alot of the gear they use for tanking got buffed and they can handle aggro and what not extremely well. If you want to play a class that travels well early on and kicks some serious butt, defenantly roll a druid.

Shaman - They are alot like druids, except they add a bit more versatility with their totems. A enchancement or elemental spec shaman can dish out some serious dps in pve and pvp making them a class to be reckoned with. As resto, they still heal very well and I think in raids most people usually ask for resto shamans. Though you could probably get away with it with how raids and such are set up now. Spec what you want :)

Hunter - Another one of those classes that tends to be placed in the "overpowered" category. They are fantastic farmers, probably the ideal choice, and leveling with them is easy. A beastmastery spec is ezmode, practically like having an actual other character in your group. Marksman is also a deadly spec, giving you massive crit power for your bow, but your pet won't be as effective as beastmastery. Regardless, in PvE or PvP Hunters defenantly stand out as one of the prime dps classes.

I'd also like to note that at lvl40 paladins and warlocks get a free mount. At lvl60 their mounts can be significantly cheaper to obtain than actual mounts through faction and what not. Druids, I think at 68 get their flying form through training and blizzard just gave them a quest for their epic flying form.

I gotta say, Rogue is the best but I guess I would need to ask if you're on a pvp server or not. Either way, I have a 70 Druid and 70 Rogue, with almost every other class into the 40s.......

Rogue is by far my favorite, all you need to do in parties is worry about killing things faster, in pvp, you totally have the upper hand with stealth and now with cloak of shadows, Warlocks no longer own you!

If you want to be popular though, roll priest. They're so in demand, but for fun...... Rogue all the way!!

Afew post above FacadeGr posted the best breakdown so use it, the only thing i will dd is the talent specs for leveling:
Warrior: Fury
Rogue: Sword
Paly: Ret for noobs, Prot of advanced aoe farming
Priesr: shadow (spirit tap OWNS)
Warlock go affliction till u get to 50 respec for felguard and PWN till 70
Shamy: 1 of the if not the hardest to solo in PVE, alot of downtime and u take HEAVY dmg, great burst at a high cost of mana and no oh **** got to run away ability Enhancement is for lvling
Hunter: The easiest class to lvl in any build
Druid: Lvling on par with shamy, very hard, ferral is for lvling
Mage: I would say Fire as i never had one

for me the warrior was boring even though i finally made it to 70. pally felt the same as warrior so i never made it past 15. the druid was a lot of fun being able to change shapes, to stealth around in cat form, being able to heal and get into the next fight. the mage can be fun and nice to never worry about being out of food or water. rogues are great if you like sneaking up on mobs and pickpocket humanoid mobs. warlocks and hunters have pets to do the major work of killing things so you rarely get hurt. shamans are said to be the best class since they get to wear mail can heal and dps along with rez themselves and others. not quite sure about priests as i'm having a hard time getting into mine.
if i was to say that any were my favorite i'd pick the rogue or warlock.

I've had the most fun with both my human warrior and a night elf rouge. I've also done well with a Blood Elf Warlock and and a Turan Shaman going for a while.

My brother likes his dwarven gun hunter though.

All classes have their good and bad things, the important thing is finding the one that you like best, anyway, not all classes level at the same speed, hunter is the quickest one to level if that is what you care about, since you asked about alliance i would go with a dwarf hunter. (If leveling fast and doing damage is the most important thing to you) I would recommend that you find a class that you really enjoy playing rather than just the one that is better in someone´s opinion! :)

I think you should go for the rogue. With a rogue you can solo yourself to 70, as well as contribute in a group if needed, their stealth abilities and high dps make them deadly in any situation, including PvP

the best classes are paladin and hunter. hunters are good because they can get pets to fight with them once they hit lvl 10. now, paladins can't have pets but they can heal themselves and get a "spell" thing that shields you so that u can run away or heal.
