I most certainly would to the children of this country it does not make any sense we are the richest and most powerful nation on the planet but yet we have more people especially children walking around here with out health care because the parents cannot afford the high price premiums these insurance companies charge hell!you need a extra paycheck just to pay the premiums.
And look at all the people in Congress, everyone of them has top of the line health insurance and you would too if you gave yourself a three thousand dollar raise like they did last year now wouldn't you?
But yet these dirt bags in Washington, can't come up with legislation that will afford the average family of four affordable health insurance.
And actually prisoners do not get free health care anymore I know from working in two correctional facilities if they get money from home or work in the facilities and make and income that way what ever they need like and aspirin they are charged for it your right it use to be free but not anymore it still isn't as much as we pay for on the outside but it is not totally free for them anymore.
There is so much we could do with that money here at home all the children in this country that go to bed at night hungry for lack of food, clothing you name it well help a country and its people overseas as quick as you snap your fingers and I am all for that traveling as I did in the U.S.Navy,all over seas I have seen some really impoverish countries and people but you need to take care of home and your people first and as far as I'm concern that is not being done.
Those are just some of the things I would do with all that money that has been spent in Iraq, for the people of this country first before I helped any other country charity they say is suppose to begin at home and that is exactly were I would start and end.

Yes, in a heartbeat. Saddam is dead, troops and law enforcement have been trained, and the new Government is in place. It is time to stop mollycoddling Iraq and let them stand on their own two feet.
I think everyone should have equal access to the best health care available. I especially agree with your point about prisoners getting free health care while children can't get the care they need. I see this first hand as I tutor homeless children in Downtown Los Angeles.
Healthcare should be a priority. It would ensure healthier workforces. Healthcare for children is especially important as the baby boomers are preparing to retire. Children are the future and sick children miss a lot of school which prevents them from getting the education needed to make them productive members of society.
It is also sad that our injured troops and the Veterans who have fought for all the freedoms that we enjoy have to return to our country to substandard medical facilities and medical care. VA Hospitals are very understaffed and under supplied according to an article a couple of days ago in USA Today. Why is this??? Because most of the money is going to support this stupid war.

I am not sure about this "universal healthcare notion." Basically, you're talking about making doctors, nurses, EMT's, etc. government employees. I look at other government run subsidies around the nation and see how inefficient they are run and I wonder if I want my healthcare to be managed in the same way. Also, when doctors become government employees they will all basically get the same amount of pay. Someone who graduates from Duke with a medical degree will get the same amount of pay from someone who gets their degree from a lesser school. So why would the person from Duke want to work harder than the person from the lesser school? Where's their incentive to be better doctors? Think about it, they will all become the lazy, rude, obnoxious oaf that you see at the DMV.
Also , doctors now have to think about what they do because they might be held liable and sued. It keeps them in check so they will do a better job. What happens when they become government employees? The only thing that will keep them in check is the fear that they lose their government job. How many government workers have you come into contact with that should have lost their job a long time ago? If a surgeon makes a mistake, the patient will not be able to sue the hospital or doctor because you cannot sue the government.
I think the alternative is not to have universal heatlthcare for everyone, but instead to closely regulate current health insurance premiums and the cost of healthcare. Instead of having doctors bill insurance companies $25 for a tongue depressor, which the insurance company passes along to the consumer in the form of higher premiums, monitor the charges and insurance filing. At the same time, there should limits, both high and low, on benefits, so insurance companies cannot low ball people who need treatments.
As for the money being spent on the Iraq War, there would be none saved. The war is being financed through loans from other countries and the World Bank (why do you think Bush made such a big deal about Wolfowitz staying in charge of the World Bank). By ending the war now, we would simply stop increasing our debt. To save money, we would have to repeal the tax breaks that Bush has given.

Ending the war WOULD be relatively easy. But first people who have no business being there need to leave, congress needs to untie the soldiers hands and let them do what they are trained to do. No more of this PC crap, its a war, not a bridge game. This could have been over and done with a very long time ago.
That right there is where we end it, by winning.
Then with the extra money of course I would like to take care of all children and elderly.
As far as the prisoners thats another congressional issue.
Those people committed crimes and need to be treated as such. Stop giving them reasons to be in jail, and teach them what they did was WRONG. No healthcare, no education, no pools, cable, room and board. No gyms, no rights, NOTHING.
Look at all that extra money that would be saved right there.
So your question should read....
Why does congress care more about Prisoners than children???

How can republicans argue that healthcare should be funded by employers
1. Surely this is inconsistent with thier demands that government stay out of business way.
2. Republicans love to claim that any tax paid by business or needs to pay a living wage will drive our economy into the ground - but for some reason the cost of the most expensive health care in the world would not hurt business?
3. They also tell us that companies can just pass on increases in tax etc to customers - so wouldn't that mean that they could just pass this cost on to us so people in general pay for it anyway?
4. This still excludes people who own small businesses - I thought Republicans were supposed to care about these people?

You're on the right track, but we need to go further in reducing spending on the military. The Iraq war is only about 15% of the overall military budget for this year. We need to make permanent reductions in the amount we spend on the military.
As things are now, even after we leave Iraq, the military will still be wasting money.

i do no longer think Obama, if elected, will end the conflict in Iraq, i think of he will proceed with plans to enhance the conflict into Iran instead, which will make an Iraq pullout impossible. yet regardless, he won't build a wall of any style between Mexico and the U. S. because of the fact the Bush-initiated (and CFR supported) North American Union would be known with the aid of 2010, and there'll be effectively no north or south border to the U. S., different than the place the North American continent ends.

Yeah, I agree. I find it ironic how they argue for the sanctity of life, then leave it to fend for itself once it is outside of the wound if they don't happen to have parents that have a job with a decent healthcare plan. Not to mention the poor people they are sending off to die because of the word given that it is the right thing to do, given by the same people who have been making all of the wrong decisions regarding the war since day one, like it is gonna one day turn over a new leaf.

this has never been a stupid war.
our troops are fighting to maintain our freedom.
also, did you know that most of the people without health insurance are middle class and usually small business owners --- make it easier for them to get health insurance!
poor children are usually covered by medicaid and elderly medicare ( i am in healthcare)
please do not support nationalized healthcare, as this will be too costly and there will only be money for the bare minimum of services

What you are talking about makes too much sense. That would be the sane thing to do. This countries poloticians
should be put in a mental institution and put on all that mind altering drugs they and the pharmacutical
companies are trying to force on us including our children.
