The Great Khali has the Andre The Giant syndrome if they put the title on him who would believe that anybody could beat him. Vince Ruined this at ECW One Night Stand when he made Khali look stupid and had him job to Cena. Andre was never champ until the last part of his career because nobody could whip him if it was real. Wrestling now days doesn't have the going in its favor anymore. Andre lost the belt to Hogan because Andre passed the torch so to say. People like Khali with there size are hard to put a belt on because nobody in there right mind would think someone like Cena, Edge, or Orton could possible beat them fair and clean. Undertaker has his size to thank for him to have been a 5 time champ. If Undertaker was a little taller about the same size as Khali he wouldn't have been champ. Undertaker is a good foot short than Khali.

It depends on your definition of "great".
If you mean great as in somebody the masses would enjoy seeing with the belt week after week, month after month, PPV after PPV, then he wouldn't. I'd be among the very few wrestling fans who would enjoy seeing that.
If you mean great as in the most believable champion, then of course he'd be a great champion. That's part of why I would enjoy seeing him as WWE Champion (the other part was stated by mike d).
I was willing to wait another year or two before seeing The Great Khali in main events (easy to say now that he's in main events, but I have felt that way ever since his feud with Undertaker ended), continuing to establish himself as the most dominant force in the WWE today in the meantime, but since he was pushed into the WWE title picture between Backlash and Judgment Day, I have been perpetually disappointed by WWE's decision to keep the title around John Cena's waist when it could be around The Great Khali's instead.

if WWE were actually based on skills and strength... yeah. But Khali doesnt have the marketing potential or personality to be champ($$$) for the WWE. so... nope.

Will he make a creditable champ? Yes, realistically, he is strong, after all he is a body builder
Will he make a great Champ? No
But then again, he is better of with the belt than Cena

the great kahli cant even make a decent wrestler, let alone champ. the goofball's move set is limited to chops and really pathetic kicks that barely make it off the ground. he cant sell a move, has no personality, and is basically the worst thing in wrestling right now. its funny that people who hate cena never complain about this guy getting two months in the title shot picture. he is far worse then cena with in ring ability. in fact he is far worse then a drunk cat at in ring ability. He is the biggest waste of space on the roster and needs to be sent packing... now.

No. He has the look, but not the talent, charisma or mic skills, and those are the most important things, to me at least.
