I just thought of some more books i love. lol. Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yeh Mah. It is a very moving story so for those who haven't read it i recommend it. The adult version is called Falling Leaves by the way. I also liked to kill a mockingbird which we just finished studying at school however at times i found it difficult to understand but it is still a good book. Also all american girl by meg cabot and the sequel all american girl: ready or not are very funny books so i recommend them as well espicially for teens.

I have read a lot of things before Harry Potter. I will be the first to admit that there are probably better books out there. However, I still would have to say that currently Harry Potter is my favorite series for a number of reasons.

First of all, it is entertaining. This is evident from a number of sources including some of your previous answers. I have always been able to visualize books as I read them. The more I get into them, the more I don't see the words that I am reading anymore. Rowling's writing makes this even easier. So when I'm reading the books, I not only feel like I'm watching a very long but awsome movie, but I often feel like I'm inside the book. There are few authors that are able to do this to me.

Along these same lines, it reads like a movie. She is really good at not stopping the action. It is always moving. Harry Potter books on CD or tape have been able to keep me awake while driving road trips when others wouldn't.

I also love her series because of how much intertwining she has planned into her books. After reading each new book, I can usually go back and read the older ones and find something I missed on the first go around. Everything is foreshadowed so well, you could probably find most of the last book embedded along the way int he first six...Okay, this might be an exaggeration, but I think you get my point.

Because of all of this, it has sparked lots of discussions and theories of what may or may not be happening in the next book. It is almost like discussing philosophy, and everyone sees something different here and there.

I also love these books because they got kids to read. It's never been that kids in general don't read. But if you have ever witnessed a 10-year-old struggle through a book that is hopelessly boring to that child, you would understand the value of such books as these. It not only gets kids to read, but teaches them to enjoy reading. I have found that it often gets them thinking too. Just as I mentioned the discussions about future texts above, some of the most intelligent theories that I have heard were written by kids. It has sparked more than reading in these kids.

Finally, I love these books because they are a favorite of both kids and adults. I have not met anyone that has read them that can say I never got that much into it; or didn't fail to use the words 'couldn't put it down'. When parents and grandparents and kids all get into reading the books, it is one more thing that they all can share.

I know that my son will one day grow past Harry Potter. But it will always be special to us, because in some ways it brought us closer together. That in itself makes the series all worth while reading.

Mine would have to be "when the wind blows" and "the lake house" by james patterson. This was my first James Patterson book when I was like 16 and I am 21 now and still hooked on him. I love this series because it is captivating and everyone has the dream where they want wings so they can fly and this book makes you feel like you have. And if anyone didn't know, the series Dark Angel with Jessica Alba was based off of this series of books and is also a GREAT show!! While it lasted that is!

Glen Cook's Garrett Series. Thank goodness they are finally being reprinted. Most of them were out of print for a while. These books defy description. Imagine 40s Detective Noir with a hotshot detective, a mafia princess, a hot redhead, a dead guy who communicates with people, a parrot, a mouse girl, assorted elves, fairies, and ogres, kegs and kegs of beer and that just barely begins to describe these books. They are hilarious!

My second favorite series is Zelazny's Amber series. Nine princes and a handful of princesses in a huge dysfunctional family who communicates through trump cards.

When you have decided to grow up past Harry Potter and try something more sophisticated, these are the perfect choices series for you. Pax - C

I'll stick to favorite series of books as I have way too many individual efforts to list.

1) The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien - a brilliant piece of fantasy writing, incredibly detailed and exciting, one which has stayed with me 30 years after reading it
2) A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin - so far, 4 of the planned 7 novels have been completed and are fascinating, a mix of fantasy and historical novel, reminiscent of the Hundred Years' War time period
3) the Caesar series by Colleen McCullough - a historical novel series concerning ancient Rome from the time of Gaius Marius to the assassination of Julius Caesar; for anyone interested in this time period, it's a must-read
4) the Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell - one of the best contemporary historical novelists around, he can seemingly write about any period in any country; this one concerns a British officer in the Napoleonic Era, great narratives
5) The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis - great fantasy series which is more geared to a younger reader but is captivating enough for adults
6) the Horatio Hornblower series by C.S. Forester
7) the Warlord Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell
8) Master and Commander by Patrick O'Brian
9) the Grail Quest series by Bernard Cornwell
10) the Saxon Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell

I like the series "Exploits of Ebenezvum", it's about a young wizards apprentice who's master is cursed by a demon and the master becomes allergic to magic. Craig Shaw Gardner is the author and it is very well written. CSG writes a lot of humor, i would strongly reccomend him.
