i've used tampax pearl scented. it's not very good for swimming because it only absorb blood on one side. does the scented part have anything to do with it? does unscented tampons work better than scented? and what is the best tampon to use to use for swimming? one that allows less water to be absorbed in the tampon and doesn't only absorb on one side of the tampon, causing the string to become bloody before the whole tampon itself?

I find that Tampax Compak have always worked for me. They come in various absorbancies so you would need to pick the best one for your own needs. Also, they now make Platex Sport tampons which offer 360degree protection and layers and have an anti-leak backup layer. I would try those, in fact I might try them myself! You should not be getting pool water absorbed into your tampon; if you are it may not be inserted deep enough in your vag. If your string is absorbing, you may need a higher absorbancy tampon or you may need to try other brands to see what works best for you.I used the Pearl once and didn't like them at all for basically the same reasons you are stating.

Sorry to be frank, I hope this helps!!!
