Try taking a nice relaxing bath before bed. Drink a glass of warm milk. There are medications you can take, if you don't mind take medication. Lying in bed and reading can help sometimes. I have a hard time sleeping at night sometimes, so I have to lay in bed and do crosswords to get my mind to slow down.

set a schedule for your self lets say you get up at 5 go for a jog for an hour or so then take a shower blah blah then go to school or job if don't have either go to the park with your hamster he prob will like to see some sites stay out side in the sun get some friends together and have a game of soccer or something like that just have an active day then lets say you need to go to bed by 11 30 well an hour and a half before start getting ready for bed like turn off the TV (try not to get "hyper" or active before you go to bed) and take a hot bath/shower (cuz that will make you relax) put on something comfortable then plop in bed and that should make you tired after all that activity. Note: try and stay out of your room like don't do any thing on your bed like read or write stuff like that. cuz when you don't doing thing on your bed and you go to sleep it is telling your body OK its time for sleep. if this doesn't work try drinking warm milk and do something boring like read boring book or balancing a check book lol do this for about a month if it still persist i would suggest going to your doctor but this should work well hope this made since and helps good luck!

Exercise.

Seriously. You'll be healthier all the way around.

Also, create a routine and stick to it. Might take a few days, but if you always go to bed at the same time and get up at the same time, your brain will soon get used to the timing.

Do you snore?

If so, check to see if you have sleep apnea. SA frequently prevents you from getting deep sleep and can really mess with your normal cycle.

Hey, I have this exact problem!

It suck, I know. I am only 16, and my parents tell me I am paranoid about what goes on during my sleep. You may have the same problem! I don't have any prescriptions or anything, you just got to get used to it, close your eyes and go to sleep. This is if you do not want any drugs or anything like that. I know it is tough, but us sleepin disordered people must get throught it. If you don't like my last suggestion of getting used to it, the only thing I can tell you, it to get some sleep pills or something.

I'm sorry...

Go see a Doctor. Insomnia can be indicative of many things like stress, depression, poor diet, etc. If you are not feeling rested after sleep, then you may not be getting the proper levels of sleep and may need to see a sleep specialist.

supposably when you cant sleep the reason is that you are scared that you wont be able to sleep and that will get to you and it wont let you sleep just relax and breath count down from 100 whlie looking at the back of you head and youll fall asleep

and if that doesnt work get sleeping pills that work for YOU

i answered masturbation at first, which was a jack off answer (hahaha)...but seriously try it.

anyways don't take sleeping pills. you shouldnt really need them. try to exercise everyday, and it do in the morningand afternoon. this will really help.

also dont havecaffeine and alot of sugar in the evening. some people can sleep 20 minutes after a coffee. but i can't.

bambi's answer is good!
