you must understand that a CAD computer, has entirely different needs than the home user or computer gamer. you need a "workstation" card, not a gaming card. I have worked in Autocad for 18 years and have put together a few systems, that have worked very well. That chipset is very old, and honestly likely not good enough for to run CAD applications well. I can not tell you if it is PCI or AGP because that chipset was sold with both options. open your case look where the video plugs in, if it is a single unique looking slot, then its agp, if it looks like 2, or 3 others right next to it then it is pci.
pci express is a certain no.

Here are my sugestions.

if it is pci, sorry time for a new pc. look at this one for a budget cad system.

intel 845 chipset, I believe that motherboard uses AGP bus. Forget about PCI graphic card, you aren't going to find any anymore, and your board doesn't have any PCI-E bus.

Keep in mind while getting the fastest card money can buy is good, your system is pretty dated so your CPU will be a bottleneck anyway.

I would recommend you to look for a GeForce 7600GS

Not the best AGP card out there, but are one of the more easier to find AGP cards (AGP is outdated and its not easy to find them these days). Any anything more powerful would probably be bottlenecked by your CPU and will be a waste of money.

If your motherboard is 845GVSR, you are stuck w/ PCI.
Cheap option:

Faster option:

But do not expect awesome gaming performance from this card because the PCI bus is inherently SLOW for 3D graphics. I would still recommend moving up to an i865 board w/ 8X AGP if you want significantly better gaming performance.

APG is the latest technology and if your computer is not more than 4-5 yrs old it should support it. Any high end ATI or nVidia cards will do you fine. (any card that has a high four-digit number at the end)
