Why is it whenever mother inlaw is around hubby acts differently?

We fight ten times more and ten times worse whenever he spends time alone with her...She always seems to be in a better mood when this goes on too.

because he's showing off for his mother ... and mom is secretly pleased because she didn't want him to marry you. She will always be the first woman in his life. You are measured by her ... if she doesn't care for you she will pick out your faults and he will fight with you over it.

I would seem that your mother-in-law knows how to pick apart your weaknesses to a tee then magnify them when your husband is with her. He comes back believing her with a fresh armload of ammunition. She is "proving" how much better she is than you, in that old, old game.

Ask your husband to being setting some boundaries of respect. A self-respecting man does not allow others to speak badly of his wife. If there are really issues between you and M-I-L, then they should be dealt with. But if she's just interested in character assassination, he should draw the line. Tell him how much this hurts you and how you would like to ultimately have a good relationship with both of them. It's the high road that breaks the cycle, not taking the knee-jerk low road.

You deserve better.

my husband does it too
not with his mom tho
just with every other person that he ever knew before me
ive come to the poing where i pretty much just dont talk when his company is here
of course his whole family (aside from his mom.....we actually get along wonderfully.....surprisingly enough) thinks that im a cranky non social you know what
but its better than fighting with him about it
