If you got shot in the stomach by a person trying to kill you, and whilst in the hospital, the doctors discovered a cancer that was able to be removed, and if they hadn't found it, you would have died in a few weeks. Would you be thankful to your assailant?

Yes & No! I would feel that things happen for a reason but getting shot in the stomach is a bit out there for things happening for a reason.
I would still be pressing attempted murder charges against whoever it was but I would be sure to say something like
"I wanted to thank you... Not for killing me but for saving my life... You tried to end my stay here on earth but you extended it. Thanks."
Attempted murder is something very far out there but then the fact of the discovery of cancer was a blessing.

Thankful that I now have those few weeks back, to track them down, and stomp them out! for shooting me in the first place.

I don't know if I'd be thankful to the person but I would be thankful that God used this situation to benefit me.
