I'm in collections so I have to call people who own credit cards and don't pay their bills. What I am wondering is why the hell are these people such assholes. They are the ones who aren't paying their bills. I'm just doing my job tryin to make a living like everyone else. It seems like everyother call I make some one calls me a ***** a whore or something and they flip out on me like I am this evil person.

Just a not I am never ever rude to them, that would be sacrificing my job. I have a family to support so if I were rude to the customer, i'd be screwed.

The fact that they don't pay their bills leads me to believe that they feel the world owes them a living. They feel bothered and threatened when you call wanting them to live up to their obligations.....kinda like when your parents nag you about things your suppose to do. You usually don't feel happy about it. The good people, the ones you wish you could talk to, are living up to their obligations in life, paying their bills, and have nice quiet evenings at home.

Okay, yeah, you are doing your job, however there are many reasons for someone to be late, and many are lame....but you know as well as the rest of us that collection people are usually really big jerks who act like they are never late on anything....that is why you get attitude many times. I must say that I am not cut out for such a job.

You have a lousy job. You are connecting with folks at their worst.
Ever think about getting a new job? The folks in financial distress don't want to speak with someone bugging them about $$$.
An added note: the credit card companies ought not to have given some of these people credit to begin with.
Of course you are not an evil person but you are in a terrible position.
God bless...............

well...you do have an ugly job. it's like being a prison guard or a DMV employee...
financial problems bring out the worst in people and when you call to rub it in even more, maybe they snap and take it out on you! so do you, in turn, get nasty with them? not that anyone could blame you after having to take so much abuse...
i know it's a living, but you might want to get a different job where the circumstances are more cheerful...

I agree with a couple of the prior people, the people you are calling are usually not decent people, or else they would be fulfilling their obligations. Just accept that you will be talked like that and don't take it personally. If you do, then you are allowing these people to affect your life. They don't care, so you shouldn't either.

Well, guys are assholes to start with. You got to kind of train em to get what you want. If you don't like what he is doing don't let him, express yourself. Communicate, obviously if you didn't like it you wouldn't let him, but he will have his way with you just for the hell of it if you don't take control of the situation and that wouldn't look very good on your rep now would it ?

I understand where you are coming from but look on the other side. How would you like it if the same number keeps on calling you especially when your already in an irritated mood? Yeah I understand it's your job and you don't deserve to be cursed out.

Consider who you are dealing with. If they were decent people they would probably be making more of an effort to pay their bills.

Most people intensely resent collections calls. It comes with the territory. Since it bugs you so, you probably need a different job.
