What would happen if the anode and cathode touched the salt bridge? And what would happen if the alligator clips for a voltameter were to touch the solution?

The salt bridge is of pretty high resistance. I once made an electrolysis cell work by putting one finger from each hand in each electrode - my whole body was the salt bridge!

If the clips got into the electrolyte they would start to corrode.
