The Holocaust is probably the most immediate example that comes to the mind of any American. However, many other instances of genocide and "ethnic cleansing" have occurred in recent decades. Most notably are the situations in:

-- Bosnia (the Srebrenica massacre, where at least eight thousand Bosniak males were systematically killed by Army forces of Republika Srpska, was the first legally established case of Genocide in Europe since the Holocaust);

--Rwanda (in 1994, the mass extermination of hundreds of thousands of ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutu sympathizers in Rwanda and was the largest atrocity during the Rwandan Civil War. This genocide was mostly carried out by two extremist Hutu militia groups, the Interahamwe and the Impuzamugambi, during about 100 days from April 6 through mid-July 1994. At least 500,000 Tutsis and thousands of moderate Hutus died in the genocide. Other estimates put the death toll between 800,000 and 1,000,000;

-- and Darfur (a conflict in the Darfur region of western Sudan between the Sudanese Military and the Janjaweed militia and a variety of rebel groups, notably the Sudan Liberation Movement and the Justice and Equality Movement. The Sudanese government, while publicly denying that it supports the Janjaweed, has provided money and assistance to the militia and has participated in joint attacks targeting the land-tilling tribes from which the Darfuri rebels draw support. The UN estimates that over 450,000 have been killed in the conflict.

Hope this helps.

Genocide is an attempt to eradicate an entire group of people. So...the Holocaust is a good example of genocide where Hitler attempted to kill all the Jews. The current murders in Dafuir and Rwanda are also good examples of genocide.

Please tell me you don't actually need to ask that.

But if you do, look at Darfur. Look at World War II.
