daddi's gurl: I do not take offense to answers that are well supported and thought out, even if I disagree. Its when people start flinging insults to prove a point that the purpose of a forum is pointless.

I personally am not sure what the reasons are, however I do believe there is more to it than Bush is telling us. It would not make sense that a politician is committing political suicide by ignoring the wishes of 72% of the country.

Thoughts with regard to Peace-Convergence 2007
http://www.peaceconvergence.com

Why we have to cry out for Peace again, after Vietnam, Korea and the two World Wars which supposedly were the wars to finish all the Wars and make peace forever? Because if you find out who leads this illegal - & unjust war in IRAQ you will find that the ancestors of those leaders were also behind WW1 & WW2 and that’s why you cry out for peace again.

Retired US-Army Captain and critique of the US-war in Iraq, Mr. Eric May, concluded: “The main-stream-media, now owned by corporations that are part of the industrial complex, are selling the American people a bill of goods for the sole purpose of corporate profits from the war.” Read his complete conclusion and serve to humanity on: http://www.adelaideinstitute.org/Dissenters1/Toben/toben_may0.htm

Hopefully there will be a revolt of US-Army-Officers against the Government in the USA, like the Federal Reserve – caper of former US-Navy-Captain James von Brunn. See it on: http://www.holywesternempire.org/fed-caper.html

One of these War-Leaders who won WW2 was the richest private Bank of the World in the thirties, namely Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., (Stakeholders in the Federal Reserve-Bank of US-America). The losers of that war were not only the Labourers of Germany, but the Labourers everywhere. Prescott Bush (Grandfather of today’s US-President) was managing-partner of this company which not only was involved in financing the Allied War, but also the Nazi-Party and later Stalin and the US-Vietnam-War. I believe the real reason, never stated, was based on an intent to frighten terrorists in various other countries, and deter future attacks.

We already knew that the cells which had attacked us on 9/11 were not in Iraq. Bush and his advisors thought it was essential that our response should be swift and decisive. Yet how does one kill "terrorism?" One doesn't. But luckily we had Iraq, led by a brutal dictator, and we could invade her with relative impunity if only we could provide a more internationally-acceptable reason. Presto! WMDs.

The first stated reason for the invasion was WMDs, which were not there. Then the Bush administration admitted it was retaliation for 9/11, which was absurd, as neither Iraq nor terrorists from Iraq had attacked us. But they couldn't admit they were occupying a nation just to frighten other countries. So it became an effort to free the poor Iraqis from nasty Saddam, a better reason but with two flaws: neither America nor her allies would have accepted it; and it wasn't true.

The war continues because it is easier to begin such a fiasco than to end it honorably, without leaving Iraq embroiled in a civil war. The public never did hear of a viable exit strategy.

But Bush's advisors are not the fools we like to believe they are. America is now regarded as a loose cannon, a HUGE loose cannon. They hoped that would have a deterrent against future terrorism. Well, maybe. This at least is a plausible argument.

But I believe it will only bring far more terrorist acts down on us than we would otherwise have had. This is not the first time that Western minds have failed to understand Eastern motivations.

The various terrorist organizations have been escalating their attacks on the free world for nearly 30 years, finally dealing the blow of 9/11 on the U.S. They have declared their intent to kill us all. Now we have to chose whether we will fight them in our streets, cities and homes, or in theirs. Personally I prefer we fight them in theirs.
