We were at the park today. My son was chewing on something, I realized it was a cigarette butt!! Argh! He had clearly swallowed some, but then he threw up. Should I be worried??

nicotine can be toxic, but if he threw up he should be ok. Call pison control for advice, they may want you to give him something to make him throw up more.

If you believe he threw it all up, probably not. If you have any doubts, call Poison Control or the nurse at your local hospital and ask. It may help if you could estimate how much cigarette was on the butt, too.

Please don't listen to people who say he probably threw it all up so you need not worry. You cannot know if he vomited it all. It's a toxin, are you really willing to take that chance?

Call poison control. That's what they're there for!

If he threw up straight afterwards it should be okay but just ring the hospital and speak to a nurse just to ease your own mind.

I would be more concerned about the viruses or other harmful diseases that could have been on the cigarette butt, than the nicotine....No telling who had that up to their lips...yuck!!
