Actually, the missiles the U.S. is planning to put in poland and the czech republic are a method of defense for not only Europe, but for the U.S. as well. The strategic location will blow up the missile while it is still in its arc (for example: if it were coming from iran, the missile would be stopped in its path.) and the U.S. will be standing up for itself, as well as other countries by doing this.
This isn't a matter of having a stable, prosperous economy. Such a thing would be vital to protect the U.S. citizens as well as others around the world.
