"Shark Alley" between Dyer Island and the cost of South Africa is supposed to have the greatest concentration of great white sharks in the world. Does anybody have an estimate of what the probability is that you would get bitten by a shark while swimming across this body of water?

Chances of a shark attack in any water is slim to none. For example last year out of the entire world there were less than a 100 attacks and only 4 people were killed.

Location however is not the only thing to factor in when you are in shark water. You also have to factor in time of day and year, exact location, what you are doing in the water, male, female.... the list goes on and on.

Nonetheless there really is not an answer to your question, I am sorry.

The ISAF has some wonderful data you might want to check out.
