..vast emptiness, full of rednecks and hicks, no minorties, etc?

There is lots of farming, but there are a few of urban areas too. Kansas City, Kansas has quite a diverse population, as does Topeka, Wichita, Emporia and Manhattan. Fort Riley is located near Manhattan and that has greatly altered the minority community over the years. Aside from farming, there is some oil drilling other industry.

Sure there are a few hicks and rednecks, but most of them are polite and civil.

Well, I've been there and there is a lot of open, empty land, but I've also been to nice cities and towns in Kansas as well. There seemed to be the same number of rednecks as everywhere else, as well as minorities. It really isn't how people stereotype it!

Natiional Geographic just had an article about praerie land Kansas where they profiled a small area of hills so I dont think Kansas is a flat.
