I have broadband and can access the internet with Windows XP...When I boot using the Ubuntu CD, I cannot access the internet. I need help to configure the internet connection.

I have not used Ubuntu a whole lot...but I am assuming that due to the fact that you are only running it live from the CD instead of from an installed instance on the machine (aka dual booting), that your network connection is not being set up.
From my experience with Ubuntu, once it is installed on the machine as an actual OS which you can boot into without use of the cd, it will automatically detect just about all of your network settings and immediately connect you to the net. Working with wireless is a little bit more tricky, but they are quickly fixing those issues and most of them are probably solved by the newest release (Fiesty Fawn)

you can get on the net just using the live cd,,, i've done it many times
try just clicking on firefox web browser, if that does not work then what you need to do is click on System, click on administrations, click on Network, put check marks in wired connections
