Will a E6420 bottleneck a 8800 GTX, even after overclocking it? If so, how much should I overclock or what other processor should I purchase?

I'm actually building this rig especially for Crysis and other games of the sort.

Possibly. The 8800GTX is one of the most powerful graphics cards to date. I recommend you overclock to at least 2.6GHz but I wouldnt go much higher unless you have a realy good heatsink on your CPU. The E6600 will overclock to 2.8GHz pretty well without need for an additional heatsink and the E6700 will do it even better. Currently the best value CPU is the E6600 or E6700 when it comes to bang for buck.

I've not heard of that particular dual core chip bottlenecking an 8800 GTX. I run a pair of 8800 GTS with an AMD 4600+ and I love the combination. Of course I'm not really into overclocking too much.

Based on the reviews that I've read (hundreds) I have to think that if you are going with the GTX version - you'll have no problems. That said, right now there are no games which really tax the GTS let alone the GTX so I highly doubt your going to see any issues. May be a different story when Crysis comes out, but by then you can buy a new processor!

It should be just fine.

One of DirectX 10 improvement is that they are design to reduce the load on CPU, or graphic overhead load that have to be run on the CPU. Most of the processing will be done on your GPU.

Whats more, Crysis is a DX10 game and so will take advantage of this. You just need to have a Windows Vista of course
